It's Medicare Open Enrollment season, and that usually means you'll start to see a lot of Medicare insurance ads.

Insurance companies are allowed to advertise on TV and via mail, after the approval of their ads by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. They are NOT allowed to contact you via phone or come to your door, unless you have invited them to do so. The only exception to that is your current Medicare insurance provider.

Empower@Home is a free online program designed for adults over 60 to help uplift and improve emotional well-being from the comfort of their home.

Research shows Empower@Home is effective in reducing depression among older adults. The program is self-paced and requires no experience with technology.

Come relax, enjoy a day away and feel refreshed at the Miles for Memories Caregiver Retreat featuring Keynote Speaker Dr. Nadeem Mirza, MD

The retreat will be held on November 12 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and will include morning coffee and rolls, wellness break-out sessions, vendors and lunch.

Join us this month for our Dementia Caregiver Workshop. This free, three-session workshop provides caregivers with information and introduces skills to help support the dementia caregiving journey.

During the workshop Caregivers will learn to:

-Understand basic information about dementia and its impact on brain function

-Communicate more effectively with someone who has dementia

-Recognize stages of dementia

-Provide meaningful daily activities based on your loved one's interests and abilities

-Better understand and address dementia-related behaviors

-Create a positive caregiving environment

-Learn strategies and benefits of self-care

-Build your network of support

Our next Dementia Caregiver Workshop begins November 17 and runs weekly through December 1. The class runs from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm and takes place at the Heritage Commons Senior Enrichment Center.
