Continuing with our series talking about heart health this February. Today’s topic is smoking.

Smoking increases the risk of coronary heart disease as well as many other chronic disorders. Heart disease can be prevented and controlled by following your treatment plan, which includes quitting smoking.

❤️Chiropractic and heart health is more connected than you think❤️

Research suggests that chiropractic care may positively influence more than just pain and mobility. Studies have shown associations between chiropractic adjustments and:

• Decreased blood pressure
• Improved blood flow throughout the body
• Enhanced nervous system communication with the heart
• Reduced markers of inflammation
• Improved breathing and lung function
• Support for overall heart function

Your nervous system plays a central role in how your heart, lungs, and blood vessels function. When the body moves and communicates efficiently, it creates the foundation for better overall health.
Chiropractic care isn’t a replacement for medical treatment. It’s a supportive, conservative approach that focuses on optimizing how your body functions as a whole.

Still looking to rent out our extra treatment room. This would be ideal for a massage therapist, accupuncturist, counselor, naturopath, etc.

We are located in the busy Brookside Medical Center with lots of organic traffic. This would be a great opportunity for somebody starting out.

Today we are continuing our series of talking about heart healthy topics for Heart Health Month.

One of the most powerful yet often overlooked ways to protect your heart and body is strength training.

Building muscle isn’t just for athletes or body builders. It’s a key part of a well rounded fitness routine. Strength work helps:
• Protect your body from injury
• Boost your metabolism so you burn more calories even at rest
• Keeps you string and capable of doing everyday activities
• Supports overall heart health by improving circulation and function

Our heart healthy tip today comes from heart.org. Follow along for the rest of the month for more heart healthy tips all February.

1. Set realistic goals.
Know where you are today so you know how to get where you want to be. Learn your body mass index (BMI). Set yourself up for success with short-term goals, such as “I will make lifestyle changes that will help me lose (and keep off) 3% to 5% of my body weight.” Short-term goals can seem more achievable and keep you on track toward your long-term goals.

2. Understand how much and why you eat.
Use a food diary or tracking app to understand what, how much, and when you’re eating. Being mindful of your eating habits and aware of your roadblocks can help you get real about your goals.

3. Manage portion sizes.
It’s easy to overeat when you’re served too much food. Smaller portions can help prevent overeating. Learn the difference between a portion and a serving and how to keep portion sizes reasonable.

4. Make smart choices.
You don’t have to give up all your favorite foods. Learn to make smart food choices and simple substitutions instead. Discover healthy snacks and how fruits, vegetables and whole grains help keep you fuller longer.

5. Be physically active.
Physical activity is anything that gets your heart rate up, such as brisk walking. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week. Move more, with more intensity, and sit less.

❤️Heart Health Month Tip: Small Swaps, Big Impact❤️

Supporting your heart doesn’t mean giving up foods you love, sometimes it’s just about making smarter swaps.

Try a few of these simple changes:
• Swap sour cream or mayo for Greek yogurt
• Choose nuts instead of chips for a satisfying salty snack
• Use quinoa instead of white rice for added fiber and protein
• Add greek yogurt to soups instead of heavy cream

These small changes can help reduce saturated fat while boosting protein, fiver, and nutrients that support heart health.

Stay tuned for more tips this month!
