🚨 BIG rescue update + a giant THANK YOU 🚨

Let’s start with Tugboat, because of course it starts with Tugboat. He’s our red-billed blue magpie who somehow ended up in a lighthouse on Lake Michigan — which is especially wild since he’s native to Vietnam and no one in the U.S. has stepped up to claim him. So now he lives here like royalty, demanding fruit and attention on a strict schedule.

The other day, we opened the freezer to get him his favorite snack… and got smacked in the face with the smell of warm moldy doom. Our 1970s fridge had finally given up the ghost — the seal failed (again), the freezer contents were ruined, and I absolutely lost it. Full meltdown. I posted that we needed help.

And then — like the hero she is — Sandy Feiner jumped in and donated $1,000 toward a new fridge.

Thanks to her generosity and a well-timed sale, we were able to buy a beautiful new fridge for $1,399 with everything we needed — including a massive freezer drawer perfect for all the birdie meals and berries this place goes through.

And while we were at it? I bought a brand-new dishwasher for $499, because listen… we’ve been washing dishes in a bathroom sink. The struggle was getting real.

Thom and Andrea West are already working hard on the kitchen remodel. And Dr. Kinzel donated cabinets from his practice, which Tom is now installing along with the new sink and dishwasher. So yes — coming soon to a rescue near you: a functioning kitchen that doesn’t make us cry.

Every single time we reach out to our community for help, we are blown away by the response. Your kindness, your generosity, your absolute refusal to let us drown — it keeps us going. It reminds us that we’re surrounded by people who care. People who show up. People who make this possible.

So to Sandy, Thom, Andrea, Dr. Kinzel — and every single person who shares, donates, encourages, and believes in what we’re doing — thank you.

And Tugboat says thank you, too. Loudly. Repeatedly. At ungodly hours of the morning. ❤️
