Wrist injuries are incredibly common in kids - here's why.
Most frequent causes we see:
-Falls while playing (especially trying to catch themselves with outstretched hands)
-Sports activities like gymnastics, skateboarding, or bike riding
-Playground accidents - monkey bars and climbing equipment
-Trampoline mishaps
-Winter activities like sledding or ice skating
Kids are more prone to wrist injuries as it's their natural instinct is to put their hands out to break a fall, which puts all the force directly on their wrists. Their bones are also still growing, making certain types of fractures more likely.
When to bring them in:
-Significant pain that doesn't improve with rest
-Visible swelling or deformity
-Unable to move the wrist normally
-Numbness or tingling in the fingers
-Any time you're concerned about a possible fracture
We have on-site X-ray capabilities, so we can quickly determine if it's a sprain, fracture, or something that needs orthopedic follow-up.
Active kids get hurt sometimes - we're here to get them back to being active safely.
