My Hot Yoga Journey:
From Runner’s Pain to Life’s Purpose
For years, I was all about running—20 to 30 miles a week. It was my outlet, but it came with constant lower back pain and burnout in the heat. I’d always loved a good sauna, so I was curious about heat adaptation, when I heard Joe Rogan say, “If you haven’t tried hot yoga, do it—it’s a life hack,” I was in.
I committed right away and haven’t looked back. For 2.5 years now, I’ve been hitting class at least 3x a week. Same sequence every time—but somehow it gives me exactly what I need in the moment. A stretch, strength, mental reset, or just that blissed-out Savasana. Regardless of how I feel when I walk in, by simply showing up, I get exactly what I need for that moment
The pain I thought I’d always have? Gone. Running in the heat? Way easier. I’m more calm, more focused, and more present—with my kids, at work, even in how I approach challenges.
Hot yoga became the yin to my running’s yang. And now, I’m diving into teacher training—not just to teach, but to help others feel what I’ve felt. The growth, the release, the reset. There’s a quote or philosophy I believe deeply in: “The person who you become along the journey, is often better than the end goal itself.” I want to help facilitate those life-changing experiences for others, witness their stories, and watch who they become. That’s where I find purpose.
Lastly, I cannot say enough about the community at The Yoga Annex. It is genuinely a transformative space. All the instructors are equally supportive and amazing people. It’s a non-judgmental space where everyone is there with a shared goal of self-improvement.
