Georgia APRNs,
As many of you are aware, an upcoming meeting of the Georgia Composite Medical Board is scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026. There has been considerable discussion throughout the APRN community regarding attendance at this meeting and the importance of presenting a unified front as we continue navigating the recent developments impacting APRN practice in Georgia.
UAPRN encourages all APRNs to remain engaged, advocate on behalf of themselves and their patients, and demonstrate the strength of our profession through professionalism, unity, and collaboration.
As we approach June 4th, however, we believe it is important to help manage expectations and provide guidance regarding the meeting itself.
Based on the nature of Board meetings, it is anticipated that this will be a highly structured and controlled environment with limited seating capacity and potentially limited standing-room availability. Additionally, while many APRNs have expressed a desire to address the Board directly, it is important to recognize that opportunities for public comment or individual presentations may be limited and ultimately determined by the Board's agenda and meeting procedures.
While it is our hope that APRN concerns will be heard and that there will be opportunities for meaningful dialogue, we cannot guarantee who will be permitted to speak, who will be able to attend within the meeting room, or how the meeting will ultimately be conducted.
For this reason, we encourage APRNs attending the meeting to remain professional, respectful, and focused on demonstrating the collective strength and unity of our profession.
At the same time, UAPRN is actively working to create opportunities for APRNs to connect, collaborate, and present a unified presence throughout the day. We recognize that many APRNs are making significant sacrifices to attend, including traveling from across the state and rearranging professional and personal commitments. Accordingly, we are committed to creating opportunities for networking, information sharing, advocacy, and meaningful engagement regardless of the Board's meeting format, attendance limitations, or public participation process.
Additional details regarding these efforts will be communicated as they become available.
Our message remains simple: stay engaged, stay informed, stay professional, and stay united.
This moment is larger than any single meeting or any single ruling. It is about the future of APRN practice, healthcare access, and the patients and communities who depend upon us throughout Georgia.
We appreciate your continued advocacy, professionalism, and commitment to advancing healthcare across our state.
Together, our voice is stronger.
Respectfully,
Dr. Nancy A. Hurlock, DNP, AGPCNP-BC

There’s been a recent flurry of activity regarding NP practice in Georgia resulting in concern at the least to panic at worst. It’s good to be motivated, incentivized and mobilized. It’s also important to understand that, being a restrictive practice state, NP practice in Georgia is always being challenged. Since 1989 when the nurse protocol act was enacted and 2006 when prescriptive authority was “delegated by MDs” to NP’s, the Georgia Composite Medical Board has been regulating crucial aspects of NP practice. Participating in zoom calls hosted by UAPRN and listening to understandably concerned practitioners, a basic misunderstanding becomes clear. Practitioners want something to be done but in this realm, getting things done costs money. Lots of money. That’s reality. I’ve heard suggestions from fund raisers to go fund me. A far simpler solution is to join UAPRN of GA. There are about 20,000 APRNs in Georgia and countless students in the pipeline. Full membership is $125 per year. Student membership is $65. If every licensed APRN in Georgia joined and supported UAPRN THAT WOULD BE $2,500,000 per year to support NP practice and pay for “doing something” at the capitol!!UAPRN membership is in the 700 range. Do the math. That’s not enough to get things done. Even if you’re employed by a physician or a hospital system, having your ability to practice controlled by others with competing interests is far less than ideal. Join UAPRN. Level the playing field. The other side” has only a few thousand more licenses in Georgia but so much more money. Visit UAPRN, click the join or renew.

From today’s Zoom board meeting:

Good afternoon everyone,
As an update, I wanted to make everyone aware that today the Board met with our lobbyist and members of the Government Relations Council to discuss the recent developments related to the Georgia Composite Medical Board ruling. We recognize that things are moving quickly, while at the same time not quickly enough to address the numerous concerns that APRNs and their patients currently have.
We remain actively aware of the ongoing updates and continued discussions surrounding this issue. We also recognize that a meeting has been scheduled for June 4th to address the recent Composite Board ruling and its implications for APRNs across Georgia.
As an organization, UAPRN is currently organizing efforts to support APRN participation and engagement related to the upcoming June 4th meeting. We understand the significance of this moment for our profession and the importance of ensuring APRNs remain informed, represented, and unified.
Additionally, we are planning to host a Zoom meeting similar to the legislative update sessions conducted during the legislative session. This platform will allow members and participants to receive updates directly from our lobbyists and leadership team regarding legislative activity, advocacy efforts, and communication related specifically to this recent ruling.
As always, we encourage everyone to remain connected with UAPRN for ongoing updates and guidance. We also encourage you to continue supporting fellow APRNs throughout Georgia as we navigate this evolving situation together. The strength of our profession is rooted in collaboration, communication, and unity.
Thank you all for your continued leadership, advocacy, and commitment to advancing APRN practice and protecting healthcare access for the patients and communities we serve.

Respectfully,

Dr. Nancy A. Hurlock, DNP, AGPCNP-BC

From UAPRN state president;

Georgia APRNs , what a time for our profession.

There is no question that the most recent ruling from the Georgia Composite Medical Board has created significant concern, frustration, and uncertainty throughout the APRN community across Georgia. While this particular ruling may appear more robust or visible than previous challenges, the reality is that it reflects an ongoing and consistent effort to limit APRNs from practicing to the full scope of our education, training, and clinical expertise.

Now more than ever, APRNs across this state must unify.

If we truly want to create meaningful and lasting legislative change in Georgia, we must move together with a shared purpose and a unified voice.

Regardless of specialty, practice setting, employer, or personal perspective on independent practice, one thing binds every APRN together, we all believe in increasing access to quality healthcare for the patients and communities we serve.

That is our common ground.

That is our strength.

And that must become our message moving forward.

My challenge to the APRN community is this:

Let us change the narrative.

Let us move away from continuously asking others for permission to practice the profession we have already been educated, trained, licensed, and nationally certified to perform.

Instead, let us focus our collective energy on demonstrating the value, outcomes, accessibility, and impact APRNs provide every single day throughout Georgia , especially in underserved urban and rural communities where access to care remains a critical issue.

The conversation must shift from restriction to access.

When APRNs face unnecessary barriers and restrictions, patients lose access to timely healthcare services. Communities suffer. Preventive care decreases. Chronic disease management worsens. Rural healthcare gaps widen.

This is not simply an APRN issue.

This is a Georgia healthcare access issue.

As outlined in initiatives such as Healthy People 2030, improving healthcare access and reducing disparities remain national priorities and likewise should be a priority for our state. Georgia cannot afford to create additional barriers that limit qualified healthcare providers from serving patients at the highest level of their training.

We encourage every APRN throughout Georgia to engage with their legislators and communicate a unified message:

If you care about the health and well-being of your constituents, then you must support policies that remove unnecessary practice restrictions on APRNs and expand access to healthcare across our state.

This includes:

• Supporting Full Practice Authority for APRNs in Georgia

• Removing unnecessary barriers that limit APRN practice

• Reevaluating restrictive oversight structures that impede healthcare delivery

• Empowering APRNs to practice fully within their education, training, and national certification

This moment requires advocacy.

It requires unity.

It requires strategic action.

And most importantly, it requires every APRN to recognize that our collective voice is far more powerful when we stand together.

We look forward to working with legislators, healthcare leaders, community stakeholders, and APRNs across Georgia who believe in advancing healthcare access and strengthening the future of patient care throughout our state.

Please remain connected with UAPRN for updates and guidance on specific call to action and resources to help guide your communication with your legislators and stakeholders in your community.

Together, we move forward.

Respectfully,

Dr. Nancy A. Hurlock, DNP, AGPCNP-BC
