Meet Amy Bell, our wonderful CMA at Evergreen Haven! 💙
Amy Bell has been a licensed healthcare professional for over 30 years and has been proudly caring for our residents at Evergreen Haven for eight and a half years. Her experience, compassion, and dedication shine through every day.
Amy loves dementia care, especially in our small family setting. “I love Dementia Care in this small family setting! I get to whoop up on imaginary people and become a hero,” she says with a smile. One resident even gave her a completely new name — “Juanita” — a special bond she cherishes.
One moment that touched her deeply involved a female resident experiencing frightening visual hallucinations. The resident asked to speak with Amy, calling her “the manager.” After listening carefully, Amy reassured her that she would remove anything or anyone from her room at any time if needed. The resident thanked her for believing her, hugged her tightly, and said, “I love you.” She added that she never says that to anyone. That moment of trust and connection meant everything.
Amy believes what makes Evergreen Haven truly special is the feeling of home. “They make the rules! They help plan meals, they decide when to go to bed and to get up. They are people we fall absolutely in love with and become our family. We are home!”
A message from Amy to families:
Don’t ask them if they remember. Instead, tell them. For example — “Dad, I remember stories and times you remember. When we were young and you always took us camping…” Talk about favorite recipes, show them pictures, and always visit. They may not remember your name, but they remember your voice and your face.
Outside of work, Amy’s world revolves around her family — she has four kids, one bonus daughter, and two amazing grandsons. She collects elephants and loves to write, especially when she’s stressed or anxious.
Amy also wants everyone to know: “Like I always say, consistency! It’s best for residents and staff. Listen to your staff. We provide insights and knowledge only gained by experience and hands-on care.”
We are so grateful to have Amy’s warmth, experience, and big heart as part of the Evergreen Haven family. Thank you, Amy, for everything you do! 😊
