Great meeting today with Mike Brandow, Founder and Executive Director of CampValor Adventure Healing, and Marine Corps combat veteran.
Mike is working diligently to bring much needed veteran mental health services to our region.
As Chair of the Oversight Committee for Public Health and Food Security, I have spent much of the past year bringing to light the gaps in Michigan's mental health care capacity. I look forward to working with Mike and people like him to expand access and care.

Why Environment Matters in Healing

For many veterans and first responders, healing does not happen sitting inside four walls, under fluorescent lights, in a sterile room that feels nothing like real life.

Real healing happens when the nervous system can finally exhale in nature, in movement, in connection, and in purpose.

That is why Camp Valor is being built as a clinician led, nature based healing campus in Northern Michigan, where therapy is woven into the land, the activities, and the daily experience, not separated from it.

This is not about escaping life.

It is about building the right environment to return to it stronger.
