In an effort to give our Chamber members the best information on the law and changing environment we have been questioning the Bay City Police Department on the best way to handle the new law on open carry.

Here is the answer.



We at BCPD will make every effort to adhere not only to the letter of the law, but the spirit of the law as well. I am hoping citizens who choose to open carry will be tolerant of law enforcement and the public as we adapt to the new law. There may be incidents where those who are lawfully carrying may feel we are encroaching upon 2nd Amendment rights, but we are still responsible for the safety and order on our community. If a citizen reports to the police they are alarmed or feel threatened we must investigate the incident. This may require us to ask the armed person for their carry license. This is only to assure the complainant that the law is being followed and that the person in question has every right to openly carry the weapon. We are sworn to uphold the constitution, including the 2nd Amendment, and will respect those who choose to openly carry. We hope they will respect and understand our responsibility to do our duty.

Hello Matagorda County!!! I want to share this with you! We are getting more and more people coming into our county to work AND needing GOOD places to stay! If you have anything available, Let us know. I will be happy to pass out your information BUT I do ask that you ask a FAIR price not these outrages prices and ridiculous living conditions(for the price). It seems the prices of living housing has almost tripled yet the conditions are the same. Stories that I have heard are outrages. My latest one is that a female found housing in Wharton for $1300 A WEEK in Wharton county(the only place she could find). She had no private restroom, all males living in there, did NOT have a complete door but a shutter type door, it was filthy and after eating dinner(and discussing with her husband) she decided to not stay there. She called and ask for her money back (haven't stay the night there). They refused to give her money back or offer any refund. They told her the deal was final! I hope this is not the message or reputation Matagorda county wants to have. Workers are here and are willing to spend money here. As a business owner, I want them to know we do appreciate their business!!!! I know I don't speak for everyone but I hope I represent a huge part!
