On Saturday, Dec. 13, for the ninth consecutive year, Bay Pines VA Nurse Christine Long lead the Adopt a Veteran for the Holidays event!

The annual tradition began when Long spotted an Angel Tree in the lobby of the VA Medical Center she was working in at the time. Inspired by the sight, she reached out to a Bay Pines VA social worker to find out if she could sponsor a Veteran family for the holidays. Long received the green light and over time, her seed of gratitude has bloomed in abundance.

This year, there were a total of 39 families, with 98 children, who Bay Pines VA staff and volunteers were able to bring cheer to this holiday season.

Thank you to the donors and volunteers who came to the Bay Pines National Cemetery on Saturday to participate in National Wreaths Across America Day! Because of your generosity, approximately 8,500 wreaths were placed at the final resting places of our nation's heroes, just in time for the holidays.

A local donation effort helped increase the number of wreaths this year.

Tomorrow, on Dec. 13, the Bay Pines National Cemetery will participate in National Wreaths Across America Day. Each year, Wreaths Across America coordinates wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 3,400 locations across the United States where Veterans are interred.

Tomorrow, Dec. 11, 2025, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System’s Chaplain Service will host the organization’s annual Last Roll Call Ceremony of Remembrance at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center.
Families and friends of Veterans who have passed this year are asked to join the pastoral care team for the 1 p.m. ceremony. The event will be held at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center in the J.C. Cobb (first floor, room 1D-127).
Families and friends who expect to attend are kindly asked to RSVP to the Bay Pines VA Chaplain’s Office by calling 727-398-6661, ext. 14389 or 15547 as soon as possible.
