Acupuncture is a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), one of the oldest systems of medicine dating back 4,000 years. It is the most commonly used system of healing in the world. The theory of acupuncture is based on Qi (pronounced chee), the vital force or energy of the human body. According to TCM, Qi is circulated in all parts of the body via energy channels or pathways called meridians. This energy flow is more or less similar to the circulatory system and nervous system. In case, there is an interruption or blockage or imbalance in the flow of Qi in the meridians, it causes pain and illness; correction of this flow restores the body to balance. Various factors affect the smooth flow of Qi, such as injury, poor nutrition or improper diet, organ malfunction or infection by harmful microorganisms. Other factors that disturb the balanced flow of Qi are extreme climatic conditions (cold, wind, heat), as well as the emotional state (pleasure, dejection, stress) of an individual. Acupuncture restores the balance, thus allowing for the normal flow of qi throughout the body and restoring health to the mind and body.

Honeybees are vital to all of us. Think about it.

This year, food security is set to suffer another big setback, and the culprit could not be cuter: honeybees. Last winter, America’s beekeeping industry lost nearly half of all its bee colonies. And the numbers keep falling. Last summer, in the largest bee kill on record, more than 50,000 bumblebees were killed in Oregon as a direct result of exposure to an insecticide applied to trees for cosmetic purposes. Following up on a recent comment I made on Facebook, I am excited to announce the recent publication of my article "An In-Depth Look At Integrative Oncology - Support for people with Oral, Head and Neck Cancer with Traditional Chinese Medicine" published in Acupuncture Today; October, 2013, Vol. 14, Issue 10:

The online copy is available now and will be nationally published / printed in October.

If you are able to, please take a moment to read the article as it will give some insight as to how acupuncture works and how it can specifically address some of the symptoms and challenges that cancer patients and survivors struggle with daily.

With the current extraordinary high incidence of cancer, its time to get involved in whatever capacity you are capable.

Growing up in North America, like many others, I originally thought of acupuncture as some exotic placebo, questionably effective and a little frightening. My first direct exposure came following a hard marathon in Tochigi, Japan, in November 2006. Looking for a post-race massage, I found that organ...

It’s common knowledge in the natural health world that pharmaceuticals often (if not always) do more harm than good. It’s also clear that foods, herbs, and other natural sources can offer similar benefits without those nasty side effects. Once again, our beliefs have been affirmed by science: A rece...

Phoenix Rising Acupuncture: Announcement

07/30/2013

7/30/13

Dear Patients, Friends and Families:

I have been privileged and honored to care for you during the past 3 years. I have tried my best to help you in treating you during your time of need. My commitment is to provide you with continued high quality care in the future.

Things are changing though and I wanted to make you aware of what will be occurring.

It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing that I will be relocating to South Florida to pursue an educational and practice opportunity with the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine in an effort to leave a lasting and powerful footprint on the profession of Acupuncture and Integrative Health as a whole.

Because I want to be certain that my patients continue to receive the best possible care, I have carefully evaluated a number of candidates who were interested in assuming my practice. I have selected Dean Monitto, L. Ac., whom I believe possesses the highest qualifications and is extremely well skilled in all phases of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

When I move to South Florida, I will be teaching and practicing Acupuncture full time, but will be returning to Long Island roughly every 6 weeks in an effort to continue treating you and serving our community. What the means for you is that you will continue to be treated by Dean Monitto, L. Ac. while I am not present and if you will allow me to, happily treat you when I am present.

My last day in West Islip will be Friday, August 16, 2013 and I will be seeing patients through August 16, 2013. I would encourage you to come in as often as often as your schedule permits prior to my departure for continued treatments with myself as well as Dean Monitto, L.Ac.

Although our practice is changing and I will not be present daily, please be reassured that it will still be Matthew Enright, L. Ac., as well as Dean Monitto, L. Ac. providing your care and I will be involved in your overall treatment and progress on a daily / weekly basis via telephone as well as virtual consultations as needed. We will provide you with more information regarding the virtual consultations for those that are interested. We believe that the needs of our patients come first, so please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you.

Dean received his Master’s degree in Oriental Medicine from Florida College of Integrative Medicine, Orlando, Fl., where he practiced for 10 years. Dean was a professor and Clinic Director at Florida College of Integrative Medicine where he taught for five years. He was the first Alternative health provider invited on site to practice medicine at Universal Studios, Orlando. Dean worked with members of Team USA track and field, Orlando Predators, professional indoor football team, members of the UCF College football, and University of Florida, Gainesville volleyball teams. When he moved back to New York, he became a Professor and Clinic Director of New York College of Health Professions. He currently practices in Smithtown. He lives with his wife and daughter in Commack. Dean is an NCCAOM board certified, NY State and Florida State licensed Acupuncturist.

Please call me directly if you have any questions, comments or concerns or need further clarifications regarding what will be occurring.

Sincerely,

Matthew Enright, L. Ac.

The acupuncture profession will officially get a response from the Obama administration on the inclusion of acupuncture in the Medicare system.

We ring in the Chinese Year of the Snake with over 26,000 signatures on the acupuncture petition. The petition went over the top by passing the 25,000 signature threshold required to mandate a formal response by the White House.
