Holidays are coming , and with that , here is a friendly reminder that holidays aren't always a joyful time for all.
Some are grieving.
Some are homeless.
Some are addicted.
Some are grieving , addicted, and homeless.
Some are sick physically.
Some are struggling mentally.
Some are alone.
Some are cold.
Some are working through the holidays because if they don't they won't have food for it.
-ALL are worthy of thoughts , prayers , basic necessities , realistic resources, and experiencing joy themselves.-
Joy means different things to different people.
For some joy this holiday season is one hot meal and a blanket.
For some it is the shelter having space on Thanksgiving.
For some , it's that a stranger exchanged pleasent conversation with them that day.
Let us find the joy and appreciation in the often over looked things in our lives even when we're experiencing our best moments , or our worse, even if we currently have all we need , may we remember how wonderful it is to be warm, to be full, to be in recovery.
And may we never forget those who do not have those things, any day, but especially during the holidays.
What's the point of this post ?
The point is to not forget where you came from , and to remember those that are less fortunate.
To choose being compassionate over being "right".
This holiday season let this be a reminder to be grateful even on bad days. Let it be a motivation to always consider others rather than judge the surface.
Maybe you will donate this year
Maybe you can't
Maybe you'll say a prayer
Maybe you'll smile at the person at the corner store instead of glare.
Maybe you'll hand them a number to a detox
Or maybe a bottle of water.
Or maybe you'll remind yourself on a bad day what your silver linings are.
Maybe this is a reminder not only for the consideration of others but consideration for yourself.
Not all holidays are happy , but all humans deserve the right to health and happiness.
