Specializing in joint care, including regenerative PRP injections, cartilage restoration, ligament and tendon repair, and ligament reconstruction. Russell is a Texas born and raised Orthopaedic Sports Surgeon, who joined the Longview Orthopaedic Clinic Associates in 2020. Dr. Russell grew up south of Dallas at Midlothian High School then travelled to Texas A&M University where he was a football letterman and a Verizon Scholar Athlete all four years. He then attended the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio School of Medicine where his love of Orthopaedic surgery grew. After graduating medical school, he was awarded a general surgery internship at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. From there, Dr. Russell completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at West Virginia University. While in residency, he was involved in research regarding the shoulder and shoulder replacements, and developed a deeper passion for the care of athletes and athletic injuries. He was involved in the care of football players as well as collegiate and Olympic-level athletes at West Virginia University including the West Virginia Black Bears minor league baseball team. To further his passion, Dr. Russell elected to pursue a fellowship year of training in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Baylor University / Burkhart Research Institute for Orthopaedics in Houston and San Antonio, TX. As part of the fellowship, Dr. Russell cared for Veterans, Texas A&M University football, the Houston SaberCats professional rugby team, and the San Antonio Missions Minor League Baseball team. He was also proud to serve as team doctor for Episcopal High School in Houston and see their football team win a 2019 SPC Championship. Dr. Russell’s additional year of training was highlighted by direct experience in the techniques developed by Dr. Stephen Burkhart, the father of shoulder arthroscopy and superior capsular reconstruction, as well as joint preservation and cartilage restoration of the hip and knee, and advanced arthroscopic surgery with leaders in the sports medicine field. Dr. Russell is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He sub-specializes in shoulder, knee, and hip issues including rotator cuff and labral tears, shoulder instability, partial and total joint replacements, ACL / PCL / MCL / LCL tears, knee instability, meniscus tear repair and transplantation, cartilage restoration and preservation of hip labral tears, and reconstruction addressed with minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Russell and his wife Ashley are both Aggies and have two awesome boys, Peyton and Jackson. Together, they have been pursuing his dream of Orthopedic surgery across the country and are happy to be back in Texas where he can care for the next generation of athletes and their families.

📢 Longview Orthopaedic Clinic Association will close at noon on Friday, January 26, 2024 to move to our new locations. The clinic will remain closed until Thursday, February 1.

All clinic staff will be in offsite training Monday, January 29 through Wednesday, January 31. Patients may call our main line 903-758-2746 for urgent issues and messages will be taken by our answering service. If you experience a medical emergency during this time, please call 911 or go to the emergency room.

All scheduled appointments will take place in our new locations starting Thursday, February 1.
