Healthy relationships are built on a foundation of self-worth and self-care. Survivors of abuse often struggle with self-esteem after years of manipulation and control.
Learning to love yourself — through therapy, mindfulness, community support, and setting healthy boundaries — can help you heal and prepare you to engage in safe, respectful relationships.
Substance use and mental health struggles can complicate this process, but they don’t define you. Every small act of self-love is a powerful step toward resilience and recovery. 💜

Domestic violence is not just a private issue — it is a community crisis:
Children in homes with violence are more likely to struggle academically and emotionally.
Workplaces lose billions annually due to lost productivity and healthcare costs.
Neighborhoods with high rates of violence often see ripple effects in crime, instability, and public health.
Substance use rates are higher in communities where violence is common, and access to mental health services is often strained.
When we ignore domestic violence, we all pay the price. When we confront it, we build healthier schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods. Ending violence starts with each of us.

Abuse is not just physical. Survivors often face multiple overlapping forms of harm:
Emotional/Psychological: Gaslighting, constant humiliation, isolation
Verbal: Yelling, threats, demeaning language
Financial/Economic: Taking paychecks, preventing employment, or restricting access to money
Digital: Using technology to monitor or control
Physical/Sexual: Hitting, coercion, forced intimacy
Spiritual/Cultural: Using religion, culture, or identity to control or shame
Each type of abuse takes a toll on mental health. Survivors may experience depression, anxiety, or use substances to cope with trauma. By naming and understanding abuse in all its forms, we can better stand With Survivors, Always.

Domestic violence doesn’t always leave visible bruises. Abuse can look like:
⚫Constant insults or criticism that wear down self-esteem
⚫Controlling who you see, where you go, or how you spend money
⚫Monitoring your phone, location, or social media
⚫Threatening harm to you, your children, or even pets
⚫Pushing you toward alcohol or drugs as a way to control or silence you
When abuse is subtle, survivors may question their reality — leading to anxiety, isolation, and even substance misuse.
🟣 Remember: If something feels controlling, belittling, or unsafe — it is abuse. Recognizing the signs is the first step toward prevention and support.

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a national observance first designated by Congress in 1989 to unite advocates, survivors, and communities. Each year, this month reminds us to listen to survivors, spread awareness, and take action against domestic violence.
This year’s theme is “With Survivors, Always.” It’s a commitment to standing beside survivors at every stage of their journey — whether they are seeking safety, beginning counseling, or rebuilding their lives.
Domestic violence is not only a matter of safety — it’s also a mental health and public health crisis. Survivors are at significantly higher risk of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and su***de. Many turn to substance use as a way to cope with the trauma they’ve endured.
👉 This October, join us in spreading awareness, wearing purple, and showing solidarity. Together, we can build communities where everyone feels safe and supported.

💜 National Recovery Month is about MORE than recovery—it’s about changing the conversation. 💜
At CAN Behavioral Health, we’re committed to breaking the stigma around substance use and mental health. Too often, people suffer in silence because they fear judgment. We’re here to remind our community:
✔ Recovery is possible
✔ Treatment works
✔ Seeking help = Strength, not weakness
This September, during National Recovery Month, let’s lift each other up, talk openly, and support those on the path to healing. Together, we can create a community of understanding, hope, and compassion.

Patriot Day & National Day of Service and Remembrance
On this day, September 11, we pause to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost in the 2001 terrorist attacks. We also pay tribute to the first responders, service members, and ordinary citizens who displayed extraordinary courage and sacrifice in the face of tragedy. 🙏
Each year, Patriot Day reminds us not only to remember—but also to unite as Americans through acts of kindness, compassion, and service. 💙❤
At CAN Behavioral Health, we believe service strengthens community and healing. Today, let’s recommit ourselves to lifting one another up, giving back, and building a future rooted in resilience and hope. 🌟
🕯 We will never forget.
