🌙 You have probably noticed that when the clocks change, your child’s internal clock does not. Children are sensitive to changes in light, timing, and routine. A gradual transition may help them settle at night and wake on time. A few small steps before and after the switch may help make the week go smoothly.
Try these small routine changes to help kids adjust to the time change:
◻️ Shift bedtime and wake time by 10 to 15 minutes for a few days before the switch.
◻️ Keep a calm, predictable bedtime routine.
◻️ Get bright morning light within an hour of waking. Open curtains, have breakfast by a window, or spend 10 to 15 minutes outside to help reset the body clock.
🩺 “Kids do best when the routine is steady and soothing,” says Neya Sterling, MD. “A gradual shift and a calming bedtime can help the transition go smoothly.”
