New Products & Programming Changes

Hello Friends,
We will be closed Monday September 1st for Labor Day.
Also, for personal reasons we unfortunately have to be closed on Friday September 19th but will reopen the next morning.
Please plan accordingly for your prescription needs.

By popular demand we have added hundreds more greeting cards and the entire aisle has been reset. Besides expanding the sections already here we have added new card lines & blank cards and updated the gift bags, wrapping paper, bows and boxed notes.
And of course all these items are 50% off every day
Separately We have our Bayville Greeting cards at the front register. These however are not 50% off because like our town these cards are Premium
Have a great Labor Day!

Happy Superman Week, Friends
Just a few things to mention today.
Our greeting card section will be improving later this month. We are adding new card lines in addition to what we already have and we will be expanding the sections. Until that happens you'll notice the card section might be less full than normal.
Our first new card selection has arrived though and it is Bayville themed as you can see in the photos.
Finally, today Tuesday July 8th we will be closing 30 minutes early at 630pm.

I am editing this post to clarify that while the pictures were all from yesterday the mention of shoplifting
and some of the other occurrences did not occur yesterday but have happened over the past months.
To that end i am removing the pictures as my point has been made and the parents and children who have come in and who have called have been very understanding and respectful. I thank them

This post is overly long but also overdue.
We have had a problem with kids and teens in the pharmacy for a while but lately it has only gotten worse. I have been hesitant in the past to post pictures and videos from the indoor and outdoor security cameras but this community needs to know what has been going on. Here is just a sample of what we are dealing with constantly:
They shoplift by opening packages taking the contents and throwing the packaging on another shelf or inside a beach bag. The two items shoplifted most often are make up and eye drops for red eyes because of all the vaping/smoking they do.

They vandalize by opening products and sticking their fingers into them, like Vaseline and jars of cream. The last girl we saw do this denied it completely without realizing she still had the cream on her face where she applied it.
Girls come in and use hair care products such as brushes, walking around the store brushing their hair and then throwing the brush in the toy aisle before running out.

They open and spray products such as hair spray or axe body spray. One boy opened hair conditioner and squeezed it out. These are all items we can no longer sell and have to take a loss on.
We find opened candy in the aisles. They break items such as water guns and small toys and leave them lying around. Two girls started kicking a soccer ball around and hitting the ball into the shelves knocking items over

They scream. Yes, actual high pitched screams when they walk in and always when they walk out. Employees are, unfortunately, used to it but they startle customers.

When they do buy a product they throw the packaging on the floor outside the pharmacy and in the parking lot.

A group of kids walked by after we closed one night and pushed open the sliding doors, screamed and ran away. I was in the office putting papers away and heard the screams and had to watch it on the cameras to find out what happened.
They do all this knowing they can be seen and waiting for a reaction from the employees. When they are told there are multiple cameras in each aisle and completely around the building they turn and wave at those cameras. They simply do not care how they act. They have nothing better to do.
Yesterday was a particularly bad day. We had one boy ride his E-Bike into the store and when confronted said he didn't know that it was not allowed. This group was so bad that a customer with no prompting from any employee told them to leave, to have some respect and to go home.
Some of those kids who I told to leave simply came back later to cause more problems and had to be told to leave again. One group of four decided to run into the store to hide as the others kids chased them and then of course screamed when told to leave.

This same group of 4 then came back a 3rd time after we were closed with the store dark and the doors locked and decided to start banging on the front door. Not knocking but actual forceful banging with fists. If I had already left for the night that banging could have easily set off the security system. I walked outside annoyed and asked why they were banging and the boy on the bench in the photo said he needed something for schoolwork. Once again I pointed out all the cameras and again they simply don't care as you can clearly see in the photo

Other businesses have told me these kids also do the exact same thing in their stores continuously. In fact when we make them leave we watch them go down to the next store and act the same.

I am not giving these kids the benefit of the doubt anymore like I have done every time they walked in. This nonsense will only get worse with kids out of school for the summer.
I am not here to babysit the children of this town. I am not here to continuously lose money from the shoplifting and damage they inflict. I do not want them in the store. They are not welcome. They can go cause havoc in their own homes but not in my place of business.
From now on, all shoplifting and product damage will be reported to the police with the security footage proving it all. We simply cannot deal with this any more when we are trying to fill prescriptions and help our customers.

I like this graphic, its simple, 100 percent correct and lets patients know how their insurances , especially with PBMs are forcing stores to close.
Also, drug price increases aren't handled the same as in other industries. When eggs increased in price retailers had to increase the cost of products made with eggs.
When pharmaceuticals increase in price or the medication is only available from one wholesaler that charges more than others, the insurances won't pay more which makes the losses even greater.
I don't post these to garner sympathy but just to increase awareness of the industry since it affects more than just the pharmacy but the whole community.
At least SUMMER is coming!! 🏖

Everyone talks about how pharmacies are paid less than what they pay wholesalers to purchase medications. But, you hear little about how much pharmacies are actually losing when overhead cost such as vials, labels, and computer systems, etc. are factored in. Pharmacists United for Truth and Transparency breaks it down.

A simple diagram of the PBM nonsense

Let’s take a look at spread pricing, a process that generates billons of dollars in revenue a year for PBMs, while employer health plan costs increase and pharmacies are underpaid their costs.

Yesterday, it was announced that Rite Aid, one of the largest pharmacy chains in the US, would be filing for bankruptcy for a second time (the first time was in 2023), and effectively going out of business. Over the last couple of years, we've seen the media pick up on the story that independent pharmacies are being driven out of business by unfairly low payments from prescription insurance companies. But the truth is that it’s NOT just independents. Independent pharmacies may get the publicity (they are willing to talk to the media and everyone loves to root for the small guy), but the abuses of Pharmacy Benefit Managers are truthfully affecting nearly every pharmacy out there.

Corporate chain pharmacies have been closing stores left and right across the country, and the stores that are still open are often staffed so thinly that it leads to long waits and much higher rates of medical errors. If you look at the top four pharmacies in the US, you’ll see that three of them are actually INSURANCE COMPANIES. These three companies are also the top three Pharmacy Benefit Managers (prescription insurance companies) in the country and process around 80% of US prescriptions.

The only pharmacy in the top four that’s not owned by an insurance company is Walgreens. In March, Walgreens was sold to a private equity firm. According to a 2018 article by the Wall Street Journal, this private equity firm’s strategy is to buy struggling retailers and sell off their most valuable pieces. Next, it cuts costs on the leftover pieces to extract money, often forcing the remains into bankruptcy.

Rite Aid’s disappearance is exactly what these giant insurance companies want, and it sounds like there’s a strong possibility that Walgreens could be next. Our country desperately needs Congress to pass laws reining in Pharmacy Benefit Managers while we still have pharmacies left that aren’t owned by insurance companies.
