Last night, more than $1.9 billion in federal funding for mental health and substance use disorder services across the country was abruptly terminated.
These funds supported crisis response, recovery support, outreach, housing stability, prevention, and care for people who were already struggling to survive.
Behind those dollars are human beings:
Someone fighting to stay sober today.
A family hanging on through grief.
A person finally brave enough to ask for help.
While we trust there must be a broader plan, sudden stops in care can be gravely dangerous.
This is not a moment for fear — it’s a moment for collective responsibility. Providers, communities, and leaders must come together now to ensure essential services remain accessible, organizations are supported through uncertainty, and no one falls through the cracks while systems recalibrate.
BHH will keep showing up.
We will continue to serve with integrity, compassion, and resolve.
And we will continue to speak up — because the most vulnerable among us cannot afford for us not to.
