Changes in height and posture are just a normal sign of aging...right? WRONG!!

Have you ever wondered what is going on inside the body to cause the changes you see on the outside? One of the telltale signs of Osteoporosis is Loss of Height. The bones in the spine become more fragile and may actually begin to crumble in on themselves. This is known as a compression fracture. Some are painful and the individual may have back pain or even receive a diagnosis, while others may. not even be aware of the changes occurring in their spine.

There is a lot that can be done to avoid compression fractures and injuring the spine further. Those with a diagnosis of Osteopenia or Osteoporosis should speak to their Physical Therapist to learn what positions to avoid, how to safely exercise, and what they can do to even improve their bone density, ultimately preventing fractures and changes in posture!

There are 4 different kinds of dizziness: Vertigo, Lightheadedness, Disequilibrium, and Pre-Syncope. Each type of dizziness has a few hallmark descriptors that will allow your therapist to figure out what is the cause and the best way to get you feeling better.

Here is the great news about dizziness: If you wake up one day with extreme 'room-spinning' dizziness, often referred to as Vertigo, your therapist can help you get 100% rid of these unpleasant symptoms within 1-2 treatment sessions. Do NOT suffer alone, we are here to help!

Call Thrive Aging and Wellness to assist with your Dizziness TODAY!

Something that our therapists hear often is that people are afraid that their aging parent is unsafe in their home. Perhaps they are experiencing falls, forgetting to take their pills, they are unsteady when cooking a meal, or the stairs into their house are becoming unmanageable.

Therapists at Thrive Aging and Wellness are here to help!

We provide a thorough home safety assessment which includes the following:
1. Evaluating the home for anything that can place a client at risk for trips, slips, or falls. This includes looking for unsafe features such as stairs without handrails, throw rugs, lack of nightlights, whether a walker can fit into your parent's bathroom, or even where kitchen appliances are placed in relation to the dining room table.
2. Assessing the client functioning in their home. We don't believe in just doing a 'mock' assessment; we dig deeper. We may assess safety by observing the client actually cook a meal and move it to the table, ensure that they are able to get in and out of the shower and reach for a towel safely, and even observe how socks and shoes are being donned.
3. Once the assessment is complete, we make a complete list of recommended safety equipment, home modifications, and even tools such as pill dispensers that leave no room for error. If the client chooses, we can assist with ordering all equipment and even be present for installation to ensure that items such as grab bars in the bathtub are placed in the best possible position to assist your aging loved one.

Give yourself the peace of mind to know that your loved one is safe and happy in their own home. Call us today!
