How can men in their 20's and 30's protect their heart long term?

We took a trip to speak with Dr. Ian Neeland, director of cardiovascular prevention for University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.

Many younger men don't proactively think about how their actions today will impact the future health of their heart. While we can't control our genetic factors, we can focus on things like healthy diet, exercise, and visiting the doctor.

Welcome to The Check-In, our brand new virtual series helping to build stronger men; together. šŸ’Ŗ

Led by healthcare providers and subject-matter experts, each session focuses on timely, relevant topics that support men’s overall well-being, including physical health, financial stability, relationships, and personal growth. The Check-In also creates space for meaningful connection and conversations that inspire positive change.

This month's webinar explores the powerful connection between men’s health, financial security, and legacy planning. Attorney Carmen M. Scott breaks down what estate planning really means beyond just a will highlighting the four essential documents every man should have in place. Attendees will learn how proactive planning reduces stress, protects loved ones, avoids common mistakes, and supports long-term well-being, with practical examples and clear next steps to begin building a healthier future and lasting legacy.

Men have been taught to 'push it down', 'be tough', or 'deal with it later'. But when emotions are constantly suppressed, you may think you're ignoring them, but your body isn't. Bottling things up keeps stress hormones like cortisol elevated, putting your heart and nervous system on high alert for longer than they’re designed to handle.

Over time, that chronic stress response can increase the risk of heart disease. Taking care of your heart isn’t just about diet and exercise, it also means finding safe ways to process stress, talk things out, and let emotions move instead of building pressure.
