“That’s so Meta”…
Metta meditation is actually the focus of loving kindness. 🥰 Kind wishes for others- and as we give to others we give to ourselves. That is meta! With a Metta meditation practice we can send deliberate feelings of compassion and wellbeing out to all sentient beings and by connection as a sentient being ourselves, we feel this loving kindness, too.

This practice can uplift ourselves, create a foundation of compassion and allow us to act on our intentions of wellbeing for all of us, in the moment of focus and beyond. And this focus can be renewed at any moment and practiced throughout our day, and of course can begin again each day afterwards.

In sharing this essence of being kind and uplifted with the world, all sentient beings have the ability to be uplifted by connection to you and your kind intentions. Side note: If you’d like to learn more about how this transference happens in humans, one fascinating phenomenon to study is something called mirror neurons. Just one example of how this could work.

Though we may not change the state or circumstances of others with this practice we can change our own state of being in the world from an indifferent one to a compassionately connected one. This effort is worth our while because the state of indifference is one that creates suffering for all and the compassionately connected state is one that has the ability to create— less suffering, at the very least for ourselves, and usually for those we are connected to and those they are connected to and so forth. This level of sharing loving kindness through example is truly all we can expect to have control over. And even this small sense of control -partnered with compassion- in the world can bring so much relief to our suffering.

There is a visualization meditation for loving kindness, or Metta, from the Waking Up series called Metta, by Annaka Harris that I really love. And, this is where I collected the thoughts that I’ve just shared. Here is a brief summary of the visualization Metta meditation:

Imagine: Sitting high on a mountain, our seat equally well rooted in the earth as our head is reaching to the skies. Here we can conjure feelings of wellbeing into phrases or mantras, such as, “May you be happy,” or your own phrase, mine was, “May you be safe and feel safe.” These are feelings or well wishes that we send down the mountain to cover the earth and all its inhabitants in the form of glowing colors of light. Whatever color comes to mind to accompany your phrase is perfect. Mine was a different mix of colors for each new phrase. So we imagine this light of color infused with a wish of kindness moving down the mountain and blanketing the entire earth. Then we see it being absorbed by the soil and returning up the mountain to fill our own being from the roots up to the crown of the head and spilling out all around us. Allowing ourselves to see and feel this colorful light of loving kindness being absorbed into our own world of electrons and atoms with thankfulness our brain actually responds with a sense of calm and safety, as does our body.

We can continue with a new loving kindness wish full of colorful light and repeat this intention of sharing in our wellbeing together in cycles of giving and receiving Metta. Sit with this practice in silence for at least 3 minutes. Bring this practice into your daily life for a sense of calm and kindness for yourself. Return to this visualization technique throughout a stressful day to maintain more balance in your body, mind and behavior. Wishing you, and all you are connected to, well, day by day.

Let me know in the comments if you try this out and how you felt afterwards, if you like.
Best,
Candice

I am so happy that we have such a beautiful and healthy baby girl. These last 2 months with our precious Pepper Mae have been such a joyous roller coaster. From adorable little baby faces to exploding diapers, I consider this journey completely my pleasure! So very blessed indeed. Thank You, Universe! I most certainly laugh with glee everyday, regardless of, and sometimes due to, all the challenges. And my family is such a gift. I am also extremely thankful to all of my extended family and friends for all of your love and support!! I only wish the same for you all. Light and Love! Namaste.

P.S. Babies truly are natural yogis. Here's Pepper doing some leg lifts with a smile! May she be as inspiring to you as she is to me. More yogi-ness to come! Xo!

Love this!
"What is the meaning of life? (Its like a flower.)🌻 The most beautiful part of the circle, when we really live"... (Says chef Alex Atala on an episode of Chef's Table)... Yes!
It's when we are in Love with the circle of life that we really live in the moment and express our love. Perhaps we are in love in that moment because of the inspiring beauty life has shown us after all the hard work- as some may say, the payoff. Remembering the beauty life will have at some point can push us through the challenging stages. The meaning of life then may be to continuously get back to the part we love to live for, the beauty- like the flower does, from seed to bloom to seed to bloom, the point is the bloom 🌺, the most beautiful part of the circle, the fullest expression of love- without that, perhaps there is no point, no meaning, because from there, the seed drops again, with the possibility to bloom yet another moment of love's fruition, moving along the cyclical energy of life. This is why we must remember the possibilities; push towards the beauty, the love; find the hope and trust the circle. 🌻😁 Namaste, beautiful people 🙏 See the love and make it a beautiful moment.

I have been working with Chanting and Meditation for the last year and I absolutely love it. The chanting takes me out of my mind and into my true spirit almost instantly, making my meditation much more profound. So, I just want to briefly share my take on the chanting of a mantra for the preparation of meditation for anyone who would like a better understanding of it.

There is one mantra itself that actually exemplifies it quite well, for which I have found the teaching of on this website http://www.dharma-haven.org/tibetan/meaning-of-om-mani-padme-hung.htm .
The mantra is, Om Mani Padme Hum (Om Ma-ni Peh-meh Ung) where in, the meaning is not translatable. Although it has much "meaning", one cannot put it into just a few words. This allows us to let go of our attachment to reality through the meaning of words and experience the sense of emptiness through the aspect of the voice.
This sort of "cleansing" of the voice is said to be very important. The aspect of the voice is one of three aspects that the Buddhist tradition sees in need of cleansing, or emptiness, in the transformation of the whole Self from confusion to wisdom. The other two aspects are body and mind.
The sounds of the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum (Om Ma-ni Peh-meh Ung) are chanted as powerful *syllables* that connect us to the Embodiment of Compassion, which is a powerful way to connect us to our true Self and the truth of all other beings, as we are all the original vibration of Love. This focus brings our confusion into wisdom, our pain into love.

Here is a nice video I have found to be lovely in chanting along to this mantra for as long as I feel. :) Enjoy! Move your body freely to the music as you chant until you feel calm enough to settle into your seat with peace and just listen. Then let your mind and body go where ever it needs to go, with trust and compassion. The video link:

Tibetan Buddhists believe that this mantra invites the powerful benevolence and blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion.

🌟FOR ALL THE BRIGHT LITTLE YOGIS: I have been so rewarded time and time again, fulfilled by the magic of children and the energy I feel from them. They are the very special and natural kind of yogi. The kind that knows from their heart, and is able to let go of their mind, truly. We can all learn so much from children. It really lights up my heart and drops my jaw every time I am "teaching" my kids at Curative Yoga. I am so grateful to be a part of their journey in this life. I really don't see any "limitations" when I see a child in front of me. The ability in each of them, regardless of any labels they may have been given, is unique, pure, limitless and is to be encouraged in Light and Love. I intend to do this in each of my kids yoga classes and beyond. To make sure that the connection to Light and Love stays strong and unwavering. To keep their hearts light and dancing keeps my own heart alive! My light bows to your light! I am encouraged by you bright little yogis! Namaste! 😊🙏 Love Love Love, Miss Candice
