Have you ever felt disconnected from your body? That “spacey” feeling.  Or felt the need to ground yourself and return to your center?… Sometimes, when I place my hands on someone’s body, I become more attuned to their presence. Some people are fully present in their bodies, but most of...

What should we do when we are in a burn out? One of my clients recently asked me that. What if you cannot quit that job, what if you are a care giver at home, what if you are in the aftermath of a traumatic event and the damage is already done? ...
Please check my new blog for some of my personal insight about Burn Out.

For those of us who work in healthcare, or are care givers at home, the feeling of burn out is familiar. If we are lucky it only lasts in waves. Every once in a while we feel the burden and if we have a chance to leave and replenish ourselves, we can return with a charged battery. If we are caregive...

February is the Moxa Season. See my new blog on what we can do to prevent catching colds and boost our immune system before the Spring allergies come around:

Mugwort, Artemesia, is the only herb we burn in Acupuncture treatments to bring in warmth and "yang" energy into the meridians and organs. The dry herb has a consistency of dense cotton and commonly is used by being rolled into thick incense sticks that we burn and hold close to the body. We also us...

I lost my father to a traumatic event two months ago. I feel the wave of grief, coming and going. Some days more intense, some days less. As if giving me a break to be able to live life and gain some energy for the process. Walking in nature and running helps. Also taking deep breaths and doing yoga...

One of my clients wrote about my practice recently on beautynewsnyc as part of healing modalities offered in Beacon.

“ Dr. Maryam Wootan is a bit outside of town, but her Polarity Therapy and acupuncture sessions are well worth the trip. Her empathy and background as a registered nurse give each session with Wootan substance and speaks to her knowledge of Eastern and Western healing practices”

The gaps were too wide
The heartaches too deep
The paradoxes ruled the streets and homes
The past and future were all mixed up
The nerves winding to the extreme
Forces took over our instincts
The fathers and daughters worlds apart
Mothers and sons wounded

Our worlds are apart
How is that possible when we all breathe the same air, walk the same streets, speak the same language?

These are layers of history engraved in the heart of a people
Tired
Raided
Forced to change their gods, their dress, their mind

Keeping the daily rituals
The secret to their survival

Now all I see around me is
Ugly houses
Destroyed lands
Dried waters
Killed animals
Buried loves
Deep anger, deep heartache

A cry rose from the depth of darkness last year
Reached into our psyche, all around the world
Shaking and reshaping our consciousness
Lighting a glimmer of hope
We started dreaming of freedom
A hazy landscape we didn’t find words for
Some fought and tore one another apart

The power of Mahsa
Created chaos in our field
We tried to find a new pattern for freedom
The pull of old habits and our fears were too strong, we fell back into the old order again

We watched the r**e of my sisters
The killing of my brothers
We mourned the murder of our children…

One of these days
We will shake it off
Like a dead skin

When we all tune in to our hearts vibrations again

The force that carries one
That gives me wings to fly
To make a nest in a land so far from home
The survival instinct
The bird called Hope
The light of my sister who goes to space with NASA
My sister who becomes a French chess champion
My sister whose words win a Pulitzer Prize
My sister whose paintbrush mourns her niece in every stroke and burns like fire

We are Truth
Nostalgia of the future woven in our every cell
We are dreamers of life
Weavers of a story made of light
Even a thousand years of fear and tyranny
won’t extinguish our hearts

I grew up in Iran in a culture where traditional food and healing systems are still quite dominant in everyday life. My mother, a firm believer of cold and hot properties of food and herbs, is an expert on bringing her body into balance by eating a ratio of cold and hot food. In fact I didn’t know...
