The breathing challenge is TODAY🎉🥳

👉🏽If you are looking to:
👉🏽manage or decrease stress/anxiety
👉🏽wanting better sleep
👉🏽improved focus & calm
👉🏽reduced panic breaths in workouts

🤝join us in our 4 week training to see if you can start moving the needle in the right direction

Step 1:
Perform the BOLT Test (Body Oxygen Level Test) is a simple breath-hold test developed by Patrick McKeown (based on the work of Dr. Buteyko) and record your number

🧪 How to Do the BOLT Test
1. Sit calmly and breathe normally through your nose for a few minutes.
2. After a normal exhale (not forced), pinch your nose and start a timer.
3. Hold your breath until you feel the first definite urge to breathe (a tickle in the throat, diaphragm movement, or mental discomfort).
4. Release your nose and resume breathing through your nose.
5. Stop the timer at that first urge (not when you’re gasping!).
⏱️ The number of seconds you held your breath is your BOLT score.

BOLT Score (Seconds) = Interpretation of where you are currently⤵️

40 seconds=Excellent; high CO₂ tolerance & respiratory health

Step 2:
Breathe intentionally for 4 weeks, everyday if you can. Allow thoughtful and slow breaths in and out of your body and see the effects it can create like calm, reduced reactivity , improved breath control in hard workouts. Give yourself 4 weeks to start to reqirr resilience in the nervous systems in the form of calm

Step 3:
Re-test your BOLT score August 1

👀Look out for an extra 🌶️challenge in week 4

06/27/2025

Carbon dioxide tolerance is your body’s ability to handle CO₂ buildup. When you hold your breath or breathe slowly CO₂ builds up. This doesn’t mean you’re low on oxygen—your body still has plenty. But your brain thinks, “Uh-oh, too much CO₂! Breathe now!”
That urge is more about CO₂ discomfort, not oxygen danger.

Why does it matter?🧐

🫁 the better your CO₂ tolerance, the calmer and more controlled your breathing becomes.
🫁You become less reactive to stress, physically and mentally.
🫁Athletes can push harder with less breath.
Sleep, focus, and endurance all improve.

This can be trained💪🏽
Doing breath holds, nasal breathing, or breathwork slows your breathing rate and helps your body:
🌬️Adapt to higher CO₂
🌬️Use oxygen more efficiently
🌬️Stay calm under pressure

🧘🏻‍♀️🧘🏽🧘🏼‍♀️Think of CO₂ tolerance like training your brain and body to stay chill when your breath feels tight — instead of freaking out.

In order to ramp up our Onward Wilmington community’s resilience in recovery and stress management, we want to take on a CO2 tolerance challenge TOGETHER

July 1st we will test our baseline tolerance and then there will be weekly assignments to improve tolerance over the month!

We will then retest tolerance in August as a community in person paired with a workout and cold plunge💦💧

DM Sam or I if you are interested in joining the challenge to improve your stress resilience and recovery abilities 🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️
