Platypus Protected Feline Rescue Shelter

Platypus Protected, located in Beatrice, NE, strives to provide a safe, comfortable, and healthy environment for all cats who arrive at our doors.

THE ZIP CODE IS 68310 Platypus Protected is a 501 (c) (3) organization owned and operated by Susan and Kevin Mayes. We're a non-profit, licensed NO-KILL shelter and strive to provide a safe, healthy and comfortable no-cage place for the cats who live here. The only time a kennel is used is for quarantining sick or new cats who have yet to be checked out. We make our own pate using fresh, healthy ingredients and feed the cats good quality dry food. We have a few volunteers, but no foster homes. Either way, we can always use a helping hand!!

Hello everyone! I have my favorite spot on moms kitchen island! I can see the front and back door and see mom where ever she goes! It's great!! (also a great nap spot)

Good morning!

We are now under twenty cats in residence here at the shelter. We are not taking any new cats. Most are aware that we are down sizing and are caring for our special needs group that remains. They will live out their lives with us getting all the care and love they deserve.

Those of you that send donations of food, please know that your generosity is greatly appreciated! However, our greatest need is clumping litter. If you could cut back on the dry food and substitute litter that would be a great help. Our finances have been cut in half with the passing of Susan (Horde Mom) so we hope that this request doesn't offend anyone. The generosity of our donors is something we don't take lightly and greatly appreciate.

The kitties are all doing well and getting into more of a normal mode! This has been rough on them as much as it has on me.

Yesterday, December 29th, we said our final goodbye to Susan, the Horde Mom. The kitties are all doing well and I will be seeing after them from here on out. Looks like I will be taking over as "Horde Dad" and I look forward to that honor. I will post when I can and attempt to continue her legacy.

Thank you to all for your thoughts and memories.

Fair well my beautiful platypus. As always...Forever and always.
