A man spent hours watching a butterfly struggling to emerge from its cocoon. It managed to make a small hole, but its body was too large to get through it. After a long struggle, it appeared to be exhausted and remained absolutely still.

The man decided to help the butterfly and, with a pair of scissors, he cut open the cocoon, thus releasing the butterfly. However, the butterfly’s body was very small and wrinkled and its wings were all crumpled.

The man continued to watch, hoping that, at any moment, the butterfly would open its wings and fly away. Nothing happened; in fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its brief life dragging around its shrunken body and shrivelled wings, incapable of flight.

What the man – out of kindness and his eagerness to help – had failed to understand was that the tight cocoon and the efforts that the butterfly had to make in order to squeeze out of that tiny hole were Nature’s way of training the butterfly and of strengthening its wings.

Sometimes, a little extra effort is precisely what prepares us for the next obstacle to be faced. Anyone who refuses to make that effort, or gets the wrong sort of help, is left unprepared to fight the next battle and never manages to fly off to their destiny.

The Top 3 Things I See My Business Clients Struggling With
 
1️⃣ Social Media Burnout—You know you need a more dynamic presence on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn.. oh, and now youGOTTAbe on Clubhouse too (!?). You’re slinging out random photos with half-baked captions and quotes just trying your best to show up in some way. 
 
But, you’re mostly over it. If it feels like a lot of effort for very little ROI, that’s because your audience can tell when you’re winging it. Bottom line—your social media presence and email marketing are more important than ever in this post-COVID, ultra-digital world. 
 
My advice?

THINGS I WISH I KNEW BEFORE I STARTED MY OWN BUSINESS 🤯💸👀 ⁣
⁣
1️⃣You won’t always be motivated. For the times you’re not, you need to focus on showing up anyway & pushing through that urge to blow off your committments. You need to keep yourself accountable!⁣ ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
2️⃣You can make it fun: If you always focus only on goals, deadlines and the stressful parts, it will feel too serious, there’s a chance you’ll start to associate it with feelings of dread.  Don’t forget to stay lighthearted and have fun with it all

3️⃣ Rest: Rest is important for recovery. The most successful people undertand the value of taking regular breaks and scheduled down-time. 
⁣⁣
3️⃣Train & Collaborate: Collaborate with other like-minded entrepreneurs. Learning from others is a lot better than comparing yourself to them and getting jealous or competitive⁣⁣

4️⃣Keep fitness a priority.  With a never-ending laptop list, its easy to become sedentary an let your health slip.  A fit body and mind are essential for better energy, confidence & more success!⁣
⁣⁣
5️⃣Always keep learning: Seek to constantly improve and learn, not just get immediate results. You don’t know everything, and that’s ok. Keep investing in good training & mentors,mentors.
⁣⁣
6️⃣Grow your team/outsource: You need to learn to ask for help - you can’t do everything yourself. Take a look at the most successful businesses and brands around you. They have a great team!
⁣⁣
7️⃣Play the long game: Stop falling for “10k+ months in 12 weeks” or “100K followers in 30 days” gimmicks. There are no short-cuts.  Anything worth having takes time to build. 
⁣⁣
8️⃣Family + Friends: You’ll feel ostracized, excluded and lonely. People will judge you, make fun of you, question you, not support you, etc. People project their insecurities so often, especially onto those they see as successful. Move forward and keep your circle small. ⁣

9️⃣Failure isn’t the end of the world: The ventures, projects, posts and ideas that don’t pan out are your biggest teachers.  Iterate and get better.  Try again and don’t let setbacks crush your enthusiasm.⁣⁣

I never had this problem with Ben. The week before Halloween, we’d roll in to the party store and grab whatever superhero or Pokémon characters happened to be left on the shelf. It took 5 minutes, and he was thrilled with anything.
But now? Now I have a girl.
Clover has a closet full of dress-up costumes and narrowing it down is harder that you might think. Halloween countdown is here and we have to decide!

IT MEANS NOTHING...
Fall in southeast Texas isn’t all Uggs, hoodies and big piles of leaves; warm drinks on the porch. We’re still wearing flip flops, sweating and slapping at mosquitoes 🦟
Once in a while you’ll get a whisper of a cool breeze and stop to savor it, willing cool weather to arrive, even if only for the day.
Clover came in last week covered in mosquito bites. I dabbed on the calamine while she cried and cursed her ill-fated life. (you may not know this, but she’s a tad dramatic 🙄).
C: Whyyy to I have so many bites on me?!

Me: I know, honey. You must taste really yummy to those mosquitoes.

C: Whyyyy do I have to be SO DELICIOUS?!

HOW TO BUILD A PERSONAL BRAND...
1️⃣Discover Your Unique Talents & Decide on Your Niche— What you’re good at + who you can help = niche. It’s that simple but sometimes it’s helpful to tease out the details. Grab my “Find Your Niche” download in the shop for start to finish walk-through.

2️⃣Clarify Your Brand Message—What are the 1-3 topics you can repeatedly talk about and never get bored? What tone or sentiment do you want to convey? Clarity in brand message and voice is super important.

3️⃣ Content Strategy—Establish content pillars and a posting schedule for social media, blog & email. Showing up consistently with clarity and confidence will quickly establish you as a “go-to” expert for your chosen niche.

4️⃣ Be Authentic + Share Your Passion— It’s way too easy to start copying other influencers or brands. Sure, you’ll have people you admire and who inspire you, but stay true to your unique values. This is your superpower.

5️⃣ Believe in Yourself— If you’re not getting results as quickly as you’d like, it can be easy to get discouraged. Here’s a secret: it’s supposed to be kinda hard, otherwise everyone would be successful. Embrace the struggle and choose to be one of the ones who keeps going 🔥
