Lamar NSSLHA members had a great time at the TSHA State Convention 2026! We learned from industry leaders, connected with SLPs and AuDs from all over the state of Texas, and brought back new knowledge to better serve our community. We were proud to represent Lamar and continue growing as future professionals in speech-language pathology and audiology!

🎓 Research Representation at the TSHA Conference! 🎓

Our second-year AuD student, Ms. Rebecca Jones, proudly presented her research poster titled, “The Role of Cochlear Implant-Hearing Aid Performance Disparity in Bimodal Benefit”, under the mentorship of Dr. Priyanka Jaisinghani at the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA) Convention on February 19th, 2026, in Fort Worth. Their work was well received by attendees, representing our program with excellence in research and clinical innovation! 👏

✨ Here’s a brief snippet of the research:
Bimodal hearing, the use of a cochlear implant (CI) in one ear and a hearing aid (HA) in the
contralateral ear, benefits many, however some may report limited or negative benefit. The present study examined the relationship between performance disparity across ears and bimodal benefit by simulating wide performance disparity levels across the HA and CI using different spectral resolution parameters. Results demonstrated that those who show greater bimodal benefit tend to have smaller performance disparity between the CI-alone and HA-alone conditions. Further, both the HA ear residual hearing and CI channel configuration or spectral resolution greatly influence the performance disparity across ears and bimodal benefit. Thus, no single changepoint or cut-off criterion in performance disparity can be universally applied to all bimodal listeners and there is a need for listener-specific optimization in bimodal hearing strategies.
