🎉 Celebrating 20 Years of Craftsmanship 🪵

This past December marked 20 years since I built my very first coffin—for my grandpa. That simple pine coffin became the foundation of everything we do at Northwoods Casket Company. And to this day, the design hasn't changed. It's still the same honest, handmade pine box—just crafted with a little more experience and a CNC machine. 😄

To celebrate this milestone, we’re inviting YOU to help us mark this occasion in a meaningful and creative way. We’re planning to laser engrave every surface of one of our plain pine coffins and we want your help with the design!

🌻 Here’s how to join in:
1. Comment below with your engraving theme idea. Think in silhouettes or two-color line art—like a cowboy scene, prairie flowers with butterflies and dragonflies, or something entirely unique.
2. Like your favorite ideas in the comments. That’s how we’ll see which designs resonate most with the community.
3. If Julie & I select your idea to bring to life, you’ll receive a $100 prize or a special thank-you gift.

This is the coffin we’ll be engraving:

Whether you’ve been with us for years or just discovered our work, we’re grateful to walk this journey with you. Thank you for supporting small batch, honest craftsmanship.

Let the ideas begin! 🖤

🌸🌞🍂❄️ Seasons of Life, Seasons of Change ❄️🍂🌞🌸

As spring breathes new life into the world, we’re reminded that every season holds its own beauty. This casket, painted with the essence of all four seasons by a very talented local artist, is a powerful tribute to the journey of life—a reminder that every phase is meaningful, and each transition holds its own grace.

Here’s to embracing change, honoring the past, and welcoming new beginnings.

Happy Spring! 🌸✨

**"Go BIG or go home! 💪🔥 One of the very first big jobs on our new CNC might just be one of the biggest we’ll ever take on! Our local fire department needed their massive new meeting table leveled, and our Cobra CNC was the perfect tool for the job.

This stunning table, made from black walnut infused with a bold red epoxy, is already a showstopper—we can't wait to see the final result once it's sanded and finished! 🚒✨

Proud to support our community and take on projects like this!

Spring is almost here, and that means tree planting season is right around the corner! 🌱🌳 Since 2012, we've been committed to giving back to Wisconsin’s forests—planting 100 trees for every casket we craft and 10 trees for every cremation urn.

Beyond partnering with the Wisconsin DNR, we also support local communities and municipal tree nurseries to ensure new trees are planted year after year. It’s our way of honoring the earth and giving back to future generations.

Here’s to another season of growth! 🌿💚

In honor of National Retro Day, we’re shining a light on a true piece of history—the unique handle hardware on our most popular casket, the Antique Pine Panel.

Jonas and I stumbled upon the die for this hardware in a dusty old box at the General Machine and Manufacturing Company in Chicago, IL. Untouched for 50 years, it had been tucked away, nearly forgotten—until we opened the box and knew we had found something special.

The story became even more remarkable when we learned that Eric, the company’s current owner, is the grandson of the man who originally patented this hardware in the 1940s. With the die collection sitting unused for decades, Eric was planning to dispose of it.

Instead, we handed him the die and asked him to bring it back to life. Today, this beautifully crafted hardware, with its classic art deco styling, is a signature feature of our Antique Pine Panel casket—honoring history with every detail.

After almost a year in preparing and setting up new compressed air, new vacuum, and new electrical service for a new CNC machine, I finally ran my first file on our new CAMaster Cobra Elite 5x10 CNC machine last night! I know, it is just surfacing the spoil board (boring) but there is a LOT more to come. We'll be using this for casket parts, casket customization, cremation urn production and custom engraving. Additionally, if you or anyone you know might be in need of CNC work cutting wood, foam, vinyl, or plastics for furniture, cabinetry, signs, art, patterns, molds, or prototypes, we are here to support your projects. Zip zip zip! And thank you everyone tagged (and anyone I missed) for your help and support in making this possible!!!

February Flashback. Everyone has a backstory. Mine includes a horse farm just 5 miles south of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin and these 4 majestic clydesdales - Hannah, Jackie, Zeus, and Bonnie. Out of sight behind them are my parents, Steve and Marcia, and a sleigh full of happy family members enjoying a February afternoon stroll through the snowy countryside. I will remember this day fondly and be forever grateful for this photo. ❤️

The final resting places of U.S. presidents are filled with history and symbolism. Here are a few of the most fascinating presidential caskets:

🔹 Abraham Lincoln – His elaborate walnut casket, lined with lead, traveled by train across the country so thousands could pay their respects. In 1901, his remains were sealed inside a steel cage and buried under concrete to prevent disturbance.

🔹 John F. Kennedy – After his assassination, Kennedy was buried in an 18-gauge bronze casket, and his grave at Arlington National Cemetery features the Eternal Flame, lit by Jacqueline Kennedy as a lasting tribute.

🔹 Ulysses S. Grant – Unlike most presidents, Grant rests in a massive red granite sarcophagus inside Grant’s Tomb in New York City—the largest mausoleum in North America.

🔹 Franklin D. Roosevelt – Known for his humility, FDR was buried in a simple wooden casket at his family estate in Hyde Park, New York, per his wishes for a modest farewell.

Every president’s casket tells a story—not just of their life and death, but of how they are remembered. Which one do you find most interesting? 🤔

Fun Fact: At the center of every tree lies Heartwood 💕 — the strong, dense core that gives the tree its stability and durability. Unlike the outer layers, heartwood no longer transports water or nutrients. Instead, it becomes a rich, hardened foundation, filled with natural resins that protect the tree from decay and results in beautiful color variations.

Happy Valentine's Day from Northwoods Casket Company! 💕
