With Cold and Flu 🤧 season upon us it can be difficult to stay healthy, but there are many ways in which we can help boost our immune systems. One important way is through SLEEP 😴! There are 4 main ways that sleep plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy immune system:

✔️ During sleep the body produces white blood cells which help to fight off infection.
✔️ Sleep reduces the amount of inflammation in the body.
✔️ Sleep produces antibodies which also help to fight illnesses.
✔️ Deep sleep triggers hormones which naturally boost the immune system.

So make sure you are getting at least 7-9 hours of sleep per night. If you do get sick, Health Services is here to help! 💪

Colder weather means more time indoors which ultimately means more chances to spread illnesses. 🥴It is important to know the difference between a viral infection (common cold) and a bacterial infection (strep throat).

✅ Viral infections have mild symptoms and can last 7-10 days. They do not require antibiotics and will go away on their own.

✅ Bacterial infections have more intense symptoms that get worse over time and can last longer than 10 days. These infections usually do require antibiotics.

👩‍⚕️If you are unsure what type of illness you have you can have your symptoms evaluated through Geneva College Health Services!
