Neurodivergent people do not need to be fixed.
They are not broken, deficient, or lacking effort.

What is often labeled as a problem is usually a mismatch between how a person’s brain works and how rigid our social norms are. Many expectations around behavior, communication, sensory tolerance, and manners were created for a narrow definition of what is considered typical. When someone does not fit that mold, the pressure is placed on them to change, suppress, or mask who they are.

Adaptation is often framed as growth, but for many neurodivergent people, constant adaptation comes at a cost. It can lead to shame, anxiety, burnout, and restriction rather than learning, confidence, or connection. When the focus is on forcing compliance instead of understanding needs, harm can happen, even when intentions are good.

Advocacy means shifting the focus.
It means asking why a behavior exists before trying to correct it.
It means prioritizing access, safety, and regulation over social comfort.
It means recognizing that accommodations are not excuses. They are tools that allow people to participate.

I will always advocate for those with differences.
Not so they can fit into systems that were not built for them, but so those systems can become more flexible, inclusive, and humane. Progress does not come from demanding conformity. It comes from creating spaces where different brains are understood, supported, and respected.
