Welcome…In March of 1998 Noll Funeral Home, Inc., of Beaver was founded. Two years later, Schwerha-Noll Funeral Home of Midland was purchased and added as a branch location.

“Service…My grandfather, Pete Noll owned and operated a service station in Brighton Township during the 1950’s. Can you imagine if he were to return today what he would think? Where my grandfather or one of his employees would once walk to the car, lift the hood, check oil, wash windows, and pump the gas, today the customer has to do all of that by themselves! Times sure have changed…”

Owner Mark Noll refuses to accept this change. He continues to operate these funeral facilities based on the logo “More Service Than You Expect”. Unlike many companies today that reduce their amount of service, Noll/Schwerha Funeral Homes continue to increase theirs. We pride ourselves on meeting all needs of the families we serve. Some examples are assisting families with Social Security benefits, Veterans benefits and car title transfers. These tasks can sometimes seem overwhelming to a grieving family and it is our job to continue the assistance no matter if it is six days or six months after a funeral. During the Christmas holiday season, memorial trees are placed in the homes that are decorated with tribute ornaments for each family served during the year. Assistance through the funeral process is imperative for a grieving family. At Noll/Schwerha we want to make sure that each family receives everything they need during this difficult time.

Karen Lynn Capper of Beaver, dearly known for her warmth and boundless energy, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at the age of 83, with her daughter, Debbie, and her brother, Bob, by her side.
Born in August 1942 to Robert and Eva Mae Merrick, Karen graduated from Beaver Area High School before beginning her studies to become a concert pianist at Baldwin Wallace University. Two years later, she shifted her focus to business administration and earned her degree from Robert Morris University in 1966.
After a long career in medical administration—continuing until the age of 80—Karen turned her full attention to the Merrick Art Gallery. Having served on the Women’s Council for decades, as a Co-Trustee since 2002 and the Trustee since 2009, she devoted herself fully to the gallery after retiring, embracing it as her new vocation and pouring her heart and energy into its care and growth.
She was a longtime member of Park Presbyterian Church, where she served multiple terms as an ordained Elder and Deacon, sang in the choir, and contributed as both a Bible study leader and participant. Karen had a gift for making people feel instantly at home in her presence, and her legacy endures through the kindness, grace, and joy she brought to every relationship.
Karen lived her life with a rare blend of grace and exuberance. She embodied Christian kindness—deeply good at her core and unfailingly caring toward others—while at the same time brimming with energy. A force to be reckoned with, she poured herself completely into everything she touched, improving whatever she could and inspiring others to join her efforts. Whether through her church or the gallery, Karen had a gift for making things happen; it was impossible to say no to her! A party planner extraordinaire and the “hostess with the mostest,” she turned every holiday and gathering into an occasion to remember, with beautiful décor and thoughtful details that made family and friends feel cherished. Her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, and community was reflected not only in her work at the church and gallery, but also in the countless ways she made life special for those around her. She will be deeply missed, but her warmth, grace, and spirit will never be forgotten.
Karen was a most loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Charles “Brub” Capper; her parents, Robert and Eva Mae Merrick; and her brother, Theodore “Ted” Merrick. She is survived by her brother, Robert (Kris) Merrick; her two children, Debbie (Greg) Koepke and Gretchen (Peter) Lang; three stepchildren, Pamela Capper, Chad (Wendy) Capper, and Susan Capper; two grandchildren, William Koepke and Montgomery (Monte) Lang; ten step-grandchildren, Nicholas Marks, Chandler Lupo, Allison Capper Falconer (Wiley), Charles (Ava) Capper, Spencer Lupo, Andrew Capper, Sally DeVera, Colin DeVera, Jack Lupo, and Charlie Lupo.

09/19/2025

Jeffrey A. Zdinak, beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 17, at Heritage Valley Beaver Hospital following a major cardiac arrest. He was 67 years old. His passing came just 71 days after the family bid farewell to his dear mother, Alice (Howe) Zdinak. His loss has left his family in shock and sorrow, though they take comfort in knowing he is reunited with the loved ones who went before him.

Born on July 18, 1958, in East Liverpool, Ohio, Jeffrey was the kind of person who never met a stranger. In a family as large as his, cousins became brothers, nieces and nephews became children, and titles hardly mattered; what mattered most was love. To so many, he was simply “Uncle Jeff,” a constant presence who offered laughter, advice, and a welcoming seat at the table, always with a beverage and a cigarette in hand.

Jeffrey was known as the life of the party, with a raspy laugh and a fearless spirit that could brighten any gathering. Whether helping with a move in the old “Tom’s” truck and horse trailer, stomping grapes to make wine, cooking for parties, crafting with his Cricut, or swapping stories and singing in the “old language” late into the night, Jeffrey had a gift for turning everyday moments into cherished memories. His conversations spanned family history, politics, culture, crafting, and faith. He lived boldly, never afraid to speak his mind or share his heart.

A graduate of Midland High School and longtime employee of Friendship Ridge, Jeffrey’s passions reflected his vibrant personality: his faith in God and love for his church, his unwavering Democratic pride (leaving this world fittingly on Constitution Day), his Carpatho-Rusyn heritage expressed through music, and his lifelong devotion to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Most importantly, Jeffrey dedicated his life to his family, especially as the loving caregiver to his late mother, Alice.

Though his sudden passing leaves an empty place at every family gathering, Jeffrey’s spirit will live on in the stories retold, the laughter remembered, and the bonds he nurtured. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his brothers, Father John E. Zdinak (Cindy) of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, and Stephen E. Zdinak (Therese) of Stratton, Ohio. His life was further blessed with many nieces and nephews, Nikol Gammalo (Tony), Sasha Zdinak, Stephanie Dever (Grant), Kimberly Warren (Brian), Natalie Kenny (Geoffrey), and Bethany Shaw (Derrick “DJ”); as well as great-nieces and nephews, Antonia “Nia” & Sammy Gamalo, Liam & Steven Dever, Alaina “Lainey,” Ethan, & Isaac Warren, Zaydin, Lydia, & Evelyn Kenny, and Ellie & Bailey Shaw. He will also be deeply missed by countless friends and extended family who will forever hold him close in memory.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John & Alice (Howe) Zdinak; his nephews, John and Joshua Zdinak; and his nieces, Daniella Zdinak and Brianna Warren.

In his honor, the family raises a glass to a brother, uncle, and friend who filled their lives with joy, stories, and countless memories, ones they will carry fondly today and always. Jeffrey will be laid to rest beside his parents at Toronto Union Cemetery.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.

09/19/2025

Arthur Lee Reed, 68, of Pompano Beach, passed away peacefully at home on August 25, 2025, with his beloved wife, Lesa A. Stahl Reed, by his side.

Born on March 31, 1957, in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, Arthur was the son of Hal Emmet and Madolyn E. Reed. He attended Penn State University, Beaver Campus, and went on to build a long and dedicated career as a Director of Purchasing at the Riverside Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he worked for over 34 years. His strong work ethic, generosity, and sharp sense of humor made him not just a respected colleague but a treasured friend to many.

Arthur married the love of his life, Lesa, and together they shared 24 beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and countless unforgettable shared adventures. To Arthur, Lesa wasn’t just his partner—she was everything. He was a deeply devoted husband, and Lesa meant the absolute world to him.

Arthur was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Pompano Beach, Florida, for over 19 years. Arthur lived a life rooted in service, fellowship, and compassion. Whether through charitable efforts, leadership, or simply showing up when someone needed a hand, he embodied the spirit of the Moose in every way. Even after stepping down due to his battle with cancer, his impact within the Lodge continued to resonate. His contributions will be remembered with deep gratitude and enduring respect by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Of course, Arthur's professional accomplishments and community involvement tell only part of his story.

To know Arthur was to love him. He had a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and valued. He didn’t just walk into a room—he lit it up. He didn’t just make friends—he made family, wherever he went. He had a heart bigger than most. He would give you the last shirt off his back without a second thought. Always putting others before himself, always showing up when it mattered most. To know Arthur was to know laughter, kindness, and compassion in its purest form.

A die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan through and through, Arthur never missed watching a single game. He could talk football for hours, and his loyalty to the black and gold was legendary among those who knew him.

Arthur is survived by his loving wife, Lesa Reed; his brother, Emmet Hal Reed (Darlene) of Gibsonia, PA; niece Amanda McQuiston (Travis) of Ellwood City; nephew Zach Reed of Gibsonia; sister-in-law Ronda Cathcart (Joel) of Fremont, CA; nephews Eian Cathcart of Portland, OR, and Kolbe Cathcart of Arcadia, CA; and many cherished cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hal and Madolyn Reed.

A memorial service to celebrate Arthur's life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11 am ET at Noll Funeral Home in Beaver, Pennsylvania. Afterwards, a celebration of life will commence at Lance's Port & Pub in Darlington, Pennsylvania.

As Arthur often said, and truly lived by:
“We’re not here forever, so do what you enjoy and what makes you happy every day.”

Arthur will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. His light remains with us—in our stories, our laughter, and in how we choose to show up for one another. That’s how he would want to be remembered.
