Finding a connection to our spirit, or rekindling a reconnection, can be done in many different ways, but one well-known way that stands above the rest is through the practice of meditation. Meditation relaxes both the mind and body, helping to relieve stress and anxiety, while also improving focus. Meditation can even calm inflammation that may be impacting your bodily systems.
Bin He, a researcher from Carnegie Mellon University, did a study of Tibetan monks who ranged from having five to 35 years of experience with mediating. He concluded from his study that, “It seems the longer you do meditation, the better your brain will be at self-regulation.” He added, “You don’t have to consume as much energy at rest and you can more easily get yourself into a more relaxed state.”
Furthermore, a neuropsychologist at the University of Oregon found that after only a few weeks of incorporating a mediation practice in their routine, an act that moves our brainwave activity into the theta brainwave state, subject brains showed higher levels of connectivity between different lobes. The studied brains showed that they were literally moving faster, even within this lowered stress environment.
