As we begin the new year, Maryville’s Chaplain, Melissa McCoy, reflects on Mary’s gentle way of pondering all things in her heart and how that quiet attentiveness can guide our own spiritual lives. In honoring Mary, the Mother of God, we are drawn more deeply into the mystery of Christ and reminded of the power held in the Holy Name of Jesus.

Through simple prayer—speaking His name with reverence, gratitude, and trust—we are invited to clear away the clutter and make space for God’s presence in our daily lives.

May Mary’s heart lead us closer to the heart of Jesus as we step into this new season.

When Valley Catholic students Morgan Tran and Zora Persun performed at Maryville this fall, the room filled with more than music.

Smiles, tapping feet, and quiet singing showed how deeply these moments matter. Their performance reflects the Sisters’ vision from nearly 140 years ago, creating a campus where students learn, practice, and then share their gifts with the wider community. The musical legacy that began in the Motherhouse continues today in classrooms, concert spaces, and at Maryville.

Music education has been interwoven into the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon’s ministry from its beginning. They developed programs, built a curriculum, and taugh

The original 1986 recording has been carefully digitized and is now available on streaming platforms, inviting a new generation to pray, reflect, and listen.

As we enter the season of Advent, Sister Michael Francine invites us to reflect, prepare, and open our hearts to the hope, peace, joy, and love of Christ’s coming. Her View from the Dome letter sets the tone for this meaningful season and reminds us of the quiet grace found in anticipation.

The new issue of Spirit Magazine — titled “In Praise of God” — highlights the many ways people across the Sisters’ campus discover their gifts and share them with others. Through musical stories, reflections on service, and examples of generosity, this issue offers a rich look at our faith-filled community.
