It is easy to assume hormone symptoms tell the whole story, but the details often reveal nuances unique to the individual. ❄️

In November's webinar, Dr. Pamela Smith shared a case where a non-adjustable testosterone pellet led to unexpected symptoms. The patient’s natural levels were already adequate, and the added hormone resulted in acne, agitation, mood instability, and changes in glucose regulation.

The case was a reminder that understanding a patient’s starting point supports safer decisions and helps prevent overtreatment. Individual physiology matters, and thoughtful evaluation leads to more effective care.

Providers see this all the time: symptoms that do not match what serum levels report. Fatigue, mood changes, sleep issues, cycle changes, hot flashes, and anxiety can all continue even when serum values appear normal.

Saliva testing fills in those gaps and gives providers a clearer picture of what is actually happening in the body.

Here is why:
💧 Saliva measures the bioavailable or active portion of hormones. This is the part your cells can actually use.
🩸 Serum often reflects total hormone levels, which do not always match how a patient feels, especially when binding proteins are high.
🌿 Topical and transdermal hormones behave differently in the body. They often raise tissue levels without changing serum values. Dr. Zava explains this in the podcast and highlights why this matters for HRT monitoring.
🕔 Saliva collections make it easier to capture daily rhythm patterns, especially for cortisol.

Our founder, Dr. David Zava, discusses this and more with Dr. Kenna Stephenson on Episode 61 of the Women Talking Frankly podcast.

When clinical presentations get complicated, testing brings clarity. 🔍

Dr. Pamela Smith reminds us that symptoms often look similar on the surface but the underlying cause matters. Accurate testing doesn’t just guide treatment, it protects patients.✨

“You’re not imagining it.”

So many women are told their symptoms are “just stress” or “all in their head.” But the truth is often hormonal and measurable.

In this episode of Women Talking Frankly, hosts Kyle McAvoy and Candace Burch talk with Dr. Kenna Stephenson and Dr. David Zava about the science of hormone restoration and the validation women feel when they finally see their results align with how they’ve been feeling all along.

Did you know the way the body processes estrogen can impact breast cancer risk? 🧫💖

Testing estrogen metabolites helps providers identify patterns that influence hormone balance and inflammation — and gives patients a clearer picture of their own breast health. 🌿

Chronic inflammation is more than just discomfort — it’s a driving factor behind nearly 25% of all cancers, including breast cancer. The good news? It’s modifiable. ✨

In her recent ZRT webinar How to Prevent Breast Cancer Before and After, Dr. Pamela Smith explained how inflammation affects hormone balance, detox pathways, and breast tissue health.

Simple lifestyle changes like supporting gut health, balancing hormones, and reducing toxin exposure can make a real difference.

Exercise is more than just a healthy habit. 🏃‍♀️ It is the most powerful lifestyle factor linked to reducing breast cancer risk and lowering the chance of recurrence.

In our most recent webinar, Dr. Pamela Smith explains why regular physical activity is so strongly connected to both prevention and long-term outcomes — and how you can apply this knowledge to patient care.

Early detection is critical, but meaningful risk reduction starts upstream by understanding the factors that drive breast cancer risk. From hormone balance and chronic stress to environmental exposures and circadian health, modifiable influences can shape breast tissue biology long before disease develops.

ZRT’s at-home testing provides actionable data to help clinicians evaluate risk, guide prevention strategies, and support personalized care.
