When baby Charlotte arrived more than five weeks early, the Butts family found themselves on a path they hadn’t anticipated—but they weren’t alone. The Texas Health Frisco NICU team stood beside them every step of the way.

For the first five and a half weeks of Charlotte’s life, the NICU staff provided not just medical care, but also comfort, support, and love.

“Those days were hard and scary,” Charlotte’s parents shared, “but the NICU staff made it easier. Each and every one of them touched our lives in their own special way. They loved our girl and cared for her when we couldn’t. We were taught so much as new parents—and we brought Charlotte home feeling confident.”

From celebrating milestones to offering reassurance in the most overwhelming moments, each NICU nurse demonstrated their passion and purpose. “It showed every single day.”

This NICU Awareness Month, we honor the tiniest fighters, the families who walk through uncertainty with courage, and the extraordinary caregivers who help them grow stronger—together.

Is the investment Texas Health is making into the communities working? Are the grants making a difference? The answer is in the numbers. Measuring the impact of a community health program is essential. In addition to the number of people served, it is important to show how the program made a difference—for example, participants experienced an increase in access to healthy food and a decrease in depression. Through grants, we’re proud to share the measures of success through the Texas Health Community Impact 2023-2024 Evaluation Report found here: https://bit.ly/3JuKefZ, created by UTHealth Houston School of Public Health.

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that can develop during pregnancy, even if you’ve never had blood sugar issues before. It happens when pregnancy hormones affect how your body uses insulin, leading to higher-than-normal blood sugar levels. 🤰🍎

The good news? With a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and support from your care team, most women can manage gestational diabetes and go on to have healthy pregnancies and babies.
