The wild ride to Rainbow Baby Noah 🌈

After Amanda and Preston tied the knot, they decided to start trying for a baby – but nothing was happening.

It had been a year since they had stopped using birth control, so they were growing concerned. On top of that, Amanda had suffered an ectopic pregnancy years earlier, causing her to lose one of her two fallopian tubes. They worried a problem with the remaining tube could be the reason they weren’t getting pregnant.

Three years passed, and after a miscarriage and yet another ectopic pregnancy, Amanda and Preston decided that IVF was the way to go. However, they worried about the cost and the risk of spending all that money only to end up with more disappointment.

👨‍👩‍👦 Secondary infertility is the term for when you've had a child in the past, but are having difficulty getting or staying pregnant again.

Many couples experiencing this have heard some version of, "Well, at least you already have one!"

But secondary infertility is still infertility, and infertility is a disease.

Sleep affects fertility more than you might think! 😴

To start, sleep plays an important role in reproductive hormone regulation. Poor sleep quality can affect the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), a hormone that triggers the release of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), both of which are crucial for normal menstrual cycles and ovulation in women, and s***m production in men.

And you've probably heard of circadian rhythms, which are the body's natural 24-hour cycle. Key reproductive hormones like cortisol and melatonin follow this cycle, so without proper sleep, they can get disrupted.

True or false? When infertility treatments fail, it's for highly scientific reasons only.

Actually, “one of the most common reasons that fertility treatments fail is emotional burnout," says Dr. Kevin Doody, co-founder of CARE Fertility.

"Fertility itself is stressful—the treatments can be stressful, especially if it doesn’t work or if you get pregnant and then you miscarry. That can be such a traumatic experience for individuals or couples.”

That's why stress management is so important for patients who are experiencing infertility. Not only can it make the journey feel lighter and easier, but managing stress can also make it more successful.

So hang in there, and try to stay optimistic. Lean on your community to support you, and make sure to prioritize your mental health as you embark on this journey. Your future family will thank you. 🤍
