There are so many ways to volunteers! Check out our list ⬇️ for just SOME of the ways you can make a difference ❤️
Direct with Patients:
✨Patient Visiting: Reading, writing cards out or interviewing if patient is still able to communicate, playing a card game, taking patient for a walk around a facility when appropriate, Reminiscing Activities, Massaging/Holding hands, Calm presence.
✨Respite Sitting: Benefits the Patient and caregiver so they may get out to run errands, work, or rest.
✨Vigil Team: If new to hospice and after some time visiting with patients, you might feel comfortable to sit with someone on their last days. This is very personal, intimate time to be with a person. If you are someone that can be available in a pinch, this also factors into participating as vigils, by nature, pop-up and the need is immediate.
✨Pet Therapy: Volunteers who have pet therapy certified animals are always invited to speak further to the coordinator about potential assignments.
DIRECT WITH FAMILIES:
✨Bereavement Support: Companionship/Phone calls to bereaved, Support Groups
INDIRECT WITH OUR OFFICE:
✨Administrative Support: Making admission packets, Assisting Bereavement Coordinator in needs, Assisting Volunteer Coordinator in needs, Etc.
✨Tuck-in calls: Calls made once a week to most of our patients asking if they have specific needs/requests for the upcoming weekend.
Knitting/Crocheting: Prayer Shawls, Blankets, Leg and Arm Warmers.
✨Community Support: Writing an article in our newsletter "Volunteer Voice", Health Fairs, Volunteer Fairs, Assisting at marketing events and other community engagements.
