This Women’s History Month, we are pleased to spotlight Cheryl Moore, Practice Administrator for both CMG Bedford and CMG Southside General Surgery. Below she shares her inspiring story and message to women:
“At 64 years old, I am a proud mother of three sons and a blessed grandmother to eight beautiful grandchildren who bring endless joy to my life. Family has always been at the center of who I am.

For the past 47 years, I have dedicated my career to healthcare. I began working at just 17 years old as a filing assistant and, through hard work, perseverance, and a passion for serving others, worked my way up to becoming a practice administrator for several surgical clinics. Caring for patients and ensuring that every customer feels valued has always been one of the most meaningful parts of my career.

Outside of work, I love music and dancing, and I enjoy spending time outdoors; especially during the summertime. Whether it’s being near the water or spending time in the mountains, being in nature brings me peace and reminds me how beautiful life truly is.

I am also a breast cancer survivor, a journey that strengthened my faith and gratitude. It reminded me just how precious life is and how important it is to keep moving forward with hope.

As I look toward retirement in the next few years, I am excited about this next chapter. I recently opened my own business in my hometown of Appomattox, Virginia, where I hope to continue serving my community in new ways.

Through every season of life—career, motherhood, health challenges, and new beginnings—I feel incredibly blessed and grateful for the journey that has shaped who I am today.

My message to all women is this: No matter how difficult life may seem or what struggles come your way, you can rise above them. Follow what God places in your heart, keep dreaming, and never stop reaching for your goals. Happy Women’s Month to everyone!”

Tara Abbott, Jennifer Bryant, and Dr. Evan Taylor proudly joined thousands across the country in raising awareness about the importance of early screenings and prevention.
Early detection saves lives — and we’re grateful for our team’s commitment to excellent patient care and advocacy. 💙✨

For March’s visit to Lake Christian Ministries, two of our ED Nurses spent the morning sharing helpful information with community members 💙
They covered several important health topics — including stroke awareness, blood pressure basics, and when it’s time to visit the ER.
A huge shout‑out to these amazing nurses for volunteering their time and helping empower our community through education! 👏✨

Earlier this week, Sidney Earley, our Lead APP for Neurology, joined Bedford Libraries’ “Books For Fun” children’s activity! 📚✨
Sidney read to the kids and shared simple, age‑appropriate information about recognizing when someone might be having a stroke.
She taught them how they can help their parents or grandparents by calling 911 if an adult says they’re “not feeling good” or shows signs that something isn’t right.

Sidney is visiting several other library branches as well. We’re so grateful for the partnership with our local libraries and for Sidney’s passion for educating even our tiniest community members! 💙

Dear Community Partners,

Horizon Behavioral Health is collecting feedback from young adults in Central Virginia, ages 18-25, via the Virginia Young Adult Survey. Please share this information with friends, family, clients, and colleagues. If you have any questions or need promotional materials (flyers, posters, yard signs, email templates etc.), please do not hesitate to contact Tylis Jones, Horizon Prevention Specialist, at tylis.johnson@horizonbh.org.

We are collecting surveys in the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell, and the City of Lynchburg. We want to hear about the experiences and opinions of young adults, ages 18-25, on substance use and mental health in our community. These responses will help to develop health and wellness programming that better meets the needs of this demographic.

Horizon is also providing $15 gift cards to Amazon, Target, or Walmart for the first 200 respondents. It should take 10-15 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous.

Centra has operated the Bedford Hospice House for many years with the generous support of the community, including the dedicated efforts of the non-profit Friends of Bedford Hospice House. We are deeply grateful to the community members, donors, volunteers and past investors whose commitment made it possible to serve patients and families during some of life’s most vulnerable moments.

Despite this support, operating costs at the Bedford Hospice House have continually exceeded revenues and donations for several years. After careful consideration, Centra has made the difficult decision to close the Bedford Hospice House as of April 15, 2026. Home-based hospice services will remain in the community through Centra Bedford Hospice.

We recognize this decision is deeply disappointing and emotional for those impacted. Centra is working closely with providers, caregivers, patients and families to ensure a thoughtful and compassionate transition. Our focus remains on supporting current patients and helping connect them with appropriate hospice care options moving forward.
