What is Achilles Tendonitis and what can I do about it?

Achilles Tendonitis is the inflammation of the tendon that connects the calf muscle to the back of the lower leg.
Typically this is an overuse injury. Often times seen in runners who have recently dramatically increased mileage or change in footwear, basketball players with repetitive jumping, soccer players and tennis players with quick pivoting / sprinting.

What can be done to help?
Stretches of the calf muscles to reduce tension on the tendon in conjunction to soft tissue techniques, including dry needling, as well as a strengthening and stability program can be very effective in the treatment of Achilles Tendonitis. A good assessment of footwear is also highly beneficial! needling
