This is my "doable struggle" for the day. What's yours? (A doable struggle is a challenge that is difficult enough to push you to grow, but not so overwhelming that it leads to complete failure or burnout. It's a sweet spot where the effort required is significant, yet the possibility of success (or at least meaningful progress) is realistic.)

Why do we teach kids to to this, but stop as adults? This is basically Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR), which is an amazing, simple way to relax the body, especially in preparation for sleep. It involves intentionally tensing a muscle or muscle group, holding with your breath, and releasing with an exhale.

If you want to try it, you can either follow the nursery rhyme, or you can try this:

1. Preparation:
Sit or lie down: Find a position that is comfortable for you.
Wear comfortable clothing: Loose clothing can help you relax further.
2. Prepare with a few deep, relaxed breaths
3. Tensing and Releasing:
Tense the muscle group: Inhale deeply and tense the muscles as tightly as you can, without causing pain or discomfort.
Hold the tension: Hold the tension for 5-10 seconds.
Release the tension: Exhale fully and completely relax the muscle group, paying attention to the feeling of relaxation.
Rest and notice: Allow the muscles to relax for 10-20 seconds, focusing on the difference between tension and relaxation.
Repeat: You can repeat tensing and releasing each muscle group several times.
