This patient presented to me after being treated with an ALF for six years. As you can see the ALF did not change the configuration of her palate instead it pushed the teeth thru the bone. Expansion has to be done either with a tissue borne or bone borne expander. The effects on the long term health of the teeth and soft tissue and bone is compromised by any type of expanders that are tooth borne.
