Frederico "Fred" C. Morón
Frederico “Fred” C. Morón, 70, of Beeville, Texas, passed away May 18, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. Fred was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, caring brother and son, loyal friend and mentor and community leader. Through his love for his family and friends, strong commitment to the community and preservation of Tejano culture and music, his contributions made a tremendous impact not only on countless individuals, but the Beeville community as a whole.
Born on September 24, 1955, to Margarita Morón and World War II veteran Concepcion G. Morón in Beeville, Texas, Fred was the third of seven children. He was a jokester and loyal friend to many while growing up, often nicknaming every friend and cousin in the neighborhood. He was actively involved in school and church, served as president of his senior class and was voted Senior Class Favorite. He was an altar server and member of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) at St. James Catholic Church, where he met his beautiful wife, Susana Garza. In 1974, Fred graduated from A.C. Jones High School and in 1976 from Bee County College (now Coastal Bend College) obtaining an associate’s degree. In 1979, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education at Texas A&I Kingsville University (Texas A&M University-Kingsville).
After a few years of meeting at CYO, Fred and Susana's friendship blossomed into love when he asked her to dance one evening. Their love of dancing and of each other eventually led the high school sweethearts to marry on November 8, 1975. For 50-plus years, they shared a special kind of love and partnership in which they celebrated through a beautiful vow renewal and reception with close family and friends in November of 2025. To this blessed union were born their two children, Federico “Freddy” Morón and Marianna Morón. In 2009, they became grandparents to their one and only beloved grandson, Justo Morón. Justo deeply adored his grandfather and revered him not only as “grandpa” but his best friend. When visiting from Minnesota, Justo and Fred were often seen driving around town, with Fred smiling from ear to ear, as Justo learned to drive.
Friends and acquaintances fondly recalled, “Fred gave me my first job.” “He opened the doors to my music career.” “Fred served as a lifelong mentor.” Fred touched many lives during his 44 years at H-E-B, 10 years as co-owner of Dalé 107.1, and 50 years of community involvement. His legacy lives on through many, near and far.
Fred’s history with H-E-B started in 1973, when Ray Barefield saw Fred mowing the grass across from the old First National Bank, one of many lawns Fred mowed as an afterschool job, and asked him if he would be interested in a job with H-E-B. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, Fred enthusiastically responded “yes!” The next day, Fred showed up to the store in a white shirt and tie and was hired as a bag boy. Within three months, he became a checker. Soon after, Fred became an opener and closer, and the rest was H-E-B history.
In the following years, Fred went to college during the day and worked at H-E-B at night. As soon as he completed his degree in 1979, he taught sixth grade at FMC Elementary for the next three years while continuing his night shifts. In 1981, after completing the Internal Skills Training Program for H-E-B, he assumed a leadership position within the company and decided to pursue a career solely with H-E-B. After 44 years of service and dedication to H-E-B in Corpus Christi, Mathis and Beeville, Fred retired as a Store Director and became co-owner of KRXB Dalé 107.1 along with his son, Freddy.
At Dalé 107.1, Fred opened doors for many new artists while also bringing several legendary ones to Beeville over the years. Combining his passion for community service and keeping Tejano music and culture alive, he often found ways to collaborate with local businesses and organizations, families or individuals on various causes. For several years, he brought the community together each August to celebrate the anniversary of the radio station through a block party with live entertainment, food vendors and games. During some of the other scorching hot Texas summers, the radio station would partner with local businesses to provide free food and access to the city pool for local youth.
He had an open-door policy at the radio station; anyone who passed by and saw his bus-sized white Ford pickup truck parked in the middle of the street in front of the radio station would stop by to simply visit or seek help on a project, big or small. He loved people and enjoyed connecting with everyone from everywhere — from south Texas to Europe and Latin America. There was no such thing as a language barrier for Fred. He could find a way to chat up a taxi driver in São Paolo for an hour, not speaking a word of Portuguese.
Outside of his working career, Fred was involved in the community being one of the first members of the Gulf Coast Diversity Council and recipient of the David Ashworth Award for the Gulf Coast. He also served and was a former board member of the Housing Authority of Bee County, Coastal Bend College and the Boys and Girls Club as well as former president of Fiesta Bee County and former chairman of the Bee County United Way Drive.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Concepcion and Margarita Morón.
In addition to his beloved wife, children and grandson, left behind to cherish fond memories of their brother include Francisco "Frank" C. (Veronica) Morón, Petra Morón Garcia, Concepcion "Chon" (Elizabeth) Morón Jr., Margarita Morón Diaz (Abram Moreno), Ofilia Morón and Fernando Morón. Also missing their “UB” or “Uncle Buck” are his many wonderful nieces and nephews who earned the nickname for his sense of humor.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 25, at St. James Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 7 o’clock led by Deacon Pete Treviño.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated there at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, with Father Jacob Valayath officiating. Burial will follow at the Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Ernesto Garcia, Adrian Moreno, Antonio “Tony” Morón, Chon Richard Morón, Jose “Gabriel” Morón and Pablo “Paul” Morón.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Miguel “Michael” Diaz, Adan Garcia, Mario Garcia, Cody Morón and Sebastian Morón.
