Sweet Baby James, The Warrior Kid

Sweet Baby James, The Warrior Kid Sweet Baby James, The Warrior Kid was born with (ESRD). James Kallen Griffin was born in October 2020, the youngest of 4 children and their only son.

This page was setup to bring awareness to his condition and provide support to his family as they prepare for extensive treatment leading up to a kidney transplant. His middle name is Kallen, which is Gaelic for Warrior, that's exactly what he is. He fought his way into this world and his fight continues. He is adored by his 3 older sister's Kaylee, Raegan and Teagan, who lovingly call him Sweet Baby James. Baby James was born with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) which means his kidneys only function at about 10% of what is considered normal. Kidney function less than 15% is considered Kidney Failure. Baby James has endured multiple surgeries already in his 5 months, including surgery to unblock his urinary tract, a vesicostomy, and surgery to place a feeding tube in his belly. He is scheduled for surgery in the next week (April, 2021) to install another line through his belly, to prepare him for Peritoneal Dialysis. Little man is then scheduled to start dialysis in May, after Mom and Dad go through about a week of training. The training will prepare them so they can administer his dialysis at home. The hope is that dialysis will stabilize Baby James and help him thrive to grow and age to a point the doctors need him to be to receive a kidney transplant. Doctors are planning for a transplant about two years old. Mom and Dad will begin the testing soon for kidney donation, to hopefully be a match with Baby James. April (Mom) is amazing and has enthusiastically taken on the role of Baby James’ Nurse flawlessly, which is a full time job. Calculating and administering Baby James’ medications, supplements, feeds and his least favorite, shots. On top of being a full time care taker, driver, etc. to Baby James’ big sisters and biggest cheerleaders Kaylee (16), Raegan (14) and Teagan (6). Jim (Dad) is a former Marine who served one combat tour in Iraq and was honorably discharged in 2004. Jim has served for 15 years in the United States Secret Service. In the last 14 years he has served in the Special Operations Division, working and training alongside of the most elite military and Law Enforcement units in the Special Operations community. Jim currently serves as an Instructor in the USSS Special Operations Training Section. Jim and April have so much to focus on with Baby James' care, thei family and honestly, our country. This page was created to raise awareness of Sweet Baby James’ condition, share his journey and provide support to his family. We thank you for being here. https://taplink.cc/sweetbabyjamesthewarriorkid

It’s been a long 10 day rollercoaster for little man. I will do my best to keep it brief. Recovery has been stalled, primarily due to a partially blocked bowel. Docs have been working diligently to get it figured out. Because of this, James has not taken anything by mouth for ten days. His nutrition has been running though his IV, along with fluids, meds, etc. The nutrition IV’s are extremely hard on the veins and he has been blowing IV’s pretty consistently. He’s probably had to have a minimum of 8-10 new IV’s placed. Possibility of a pic or central line in his near future. It is very important to preserve the veins in kidney patients in case they ever need dialysis in the future. He had to have the tube placed back in his nose a few days ago, to suction out his stomach intermittently and help decompress his torso. He was having some issues with vomiting. Good news is that he doesn’t have a total bowel obstruction, verified by imaging today. Docs are hopeful it will clear itself which is a huge part of advancing recovery. Thankfully it doesn’t appear that there is any issue where they removed part of his small intestines and re-attached them. Due to the imaging, they took James off the suction and he was able to eat a popsicle tonight, and so far keep it down. This was a small victory, my dude loves popsicles. Thank everybody for the continuous support and prayers. James likes to see the posts and hear all of the wonderful messages. Please continue the prayers, pray especially hard for this guy to p**p ! 💚 #

Day 7 and James is feeling a little better. This is the first smile that we’ve had in a week and I think it was just for the camera. His team is weening him off the morphine in order to get his bladder moving. He’s still having some nausea and hasn’t been able to take anything by mouth, even liquids. Physical Therapy got him up and moving a bit today, first time he’s been out of bed in a week. He was definitely uncomfortable but was able to walk a little with assistance. Docs removed one of his drains and removed the dressing from his Stoma and incision. His vesicostomy was closed up and James now has his first belly button with the Stoma. It’s been a rough week but hopefully we are starting to move in the right direction, as long as we can get his bowels and body moving, and for him to be able to keep liquids/food down. Prayers are working, please keep them coming 🙏💚

Unfortunately, this has been the look for the past 24 hours. The only positive has been that James bowels have began waking up. Little man’s pain management has not gone to plan, unfortunately. James has been on an epidural and IV Va**um, and Morphine, for pain since surgery. Last night, James began vomiting after taking his Transplant anti-rejection meds, which can not be missed. They hooked him up with some Zofran and he tolerated them later than the scheduled time. The vomiting became un unexpected trend and has continued throughout the day and evening today, while on Zofran. Unfortunately, James epidural was dislodged today and had to be removed. He is currently still on the Va**um and Morphine but they added a NARCAN drip for safety, as well. This recovery has been far more intense than the Transplant and I just want this poor guy to get some pain free peace. Please keep up the prayers for our guy to get some pain relief and start trending in a happier, healthier direction. His care team is world class but ultimately it comes down to the good Lord to get it turned around ! Love you all and please pray for the little man💚

Long day for the stud but with some progress ! His pain management has been working hard to keep him comfortable and it looks like they found the right formula for today. James has an epidural, steady diet of Va**um for his bladder spasms, and Morphine for general pain. He was finally able to have the NG tube removed from his nose, which was there to suction any gunk from his stomach. Once that was removed he was able to start on ice chips. Due to the section of his small intestines being removed, they want James bowels to wake up before he starts eating solid food. All he wants is a burger and to go home. He was better today than yesterday will hopefully be a little better tomorrow, than today. Still a long road ahead but God is good and he is better than he was yesterday 💚

James is definitely riding the pain train today. As you can see by the second picture, this was a pretty complex procedure. He spiked a little fever today and his blood pressure was up but that has been normalizing. It’s going to be a long few weeks but we greatly appreciate all of the Love and prayers. Please keep them coming 💚

James is back on the Peds floor and resting. He is stable but in some pain. Surgery went well and thankfully, his amazing doc completed the surgery in far less time than expected. James had bladder reconstruction surgery and placement of a stoma. Docs had to take a part of James small intestine to augment his bladder. He’s been sleeping for the most part, thankfully. He is restless and in some pain but he is in great hands at Hopkins. Thanks everybody for the messages, texts, and calls. Hoping Mom and James can get some sleep tonight. Will send more updates tomorrow 💚

🙏 up for the Stud. Big surgery Tuesday and he’s definitely not excited for it. James has been doing great but this last big surgery has been looming over him. He is having bladder reconstruction on Tuesday and he’s definitely is not looking forward to it. As hard as the surgeries have been for us over the years, this one is hard on everyone, especially James. He is now very aware of the impending surgery and very anxious, along with the rest of us. It is hard watching him break down in fear and dread of “sleeping at the hospital” . Please throw up some prayers, if inclined, and I will post the updates. I’ve been through a lot and seen more than most but this little guy is an absolute warrior and it breaks my heart every time. Wish I could do it for him 💚💚💚

This weekend we celebrated James’s 3rd kidney transplant anniversary!

We celebrate not just the day itself, but the everyday strength he shows. We make sure we let James know how proud we are that he takes his daily medication with patience, drinks lots of water to meet his big goal, shows a brave face for monthly labs, is so brave for more doctor visits than we can count and does his best to eat healthy all with the sweetest smile.
We are so proud of how far he’s come and so thankful for the gift that made this journey possible!
