đź’™Today is National Law Enforcement Su***de Awareness Day. đź’™
We take this day to honor the officers we have lost to su***de and shine a light on the mental health challenges many of our brave first responders face in silence, often struggling with PTSD and other critical issues.
It takes immense courage to serve, and it takes just as much courage to ask for help. Our goal is to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health in law enforcement. Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
If you or an officer you know is struggling, help is available. Please reach out.

As we prepare for going back to school, just a few reminders of what anxiety in kids can look like. Give them (and yourselves) grace as we adjust to new expectations and routines.

Collectively we can make a difference! Thanks to the Bel Air PD for being in the fight and being part of the solution.

Thank you to WMAR-TV for highlighting the work that Bel Air Police Department officers (Corporal Alex McComas and Corporal Jonathan Kauffman), as well as work performed by our dispatch and other law enforcement agencies in su***de prevention efforts.

While there have been tragic deaths by su***de at the Hickory Avenue parking garage, this story shows that our officers have been able to prevent others from taking their lives.

Our Department, along with our partners working in mental health, are doing everything we can to prevent such tragedies with a mix of technology and directly intervening before people take an action that cannot be undone.

In the upcoming weeks, updated signage will be installed throughout the garage thanks to the "Office on Mental Health/Core Service Agency of Harford County, Inc." and "Harford Counseling & Pebble's Throw Consulting." Increasing visibility of our community’s resources in critical moments can make all the difference in providing hope and subsequently saving lives. Special shout out to Executive Director Jessica Kraus and Deputy Director Jamie Miller (Office on Mental Health) and Ms. Jennifer Redding (Harford Counseling) for their commitment, passion, and contribution.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, help is available in our community. Call the Bel Air-based Klein Family Center through their 24-hour hotline, 1-800-NEXT-STEP (1-800-639-8783) or 988, the national Su***de and Crisis Lifeline. YOU ARE NOT ALONE; PAUSE AND REMEMBER THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE.
