The week before Christmas can feel… heavy.

The calendars are full.

Deadlines haven’t slowed.

Family expectations, financial stress, year-end reflection, grief, and exhaustion often sit quietly beneath the lights and lists.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now, you’re not behind...you’re human.

This season asks a lot of us. And for many, it arrives on top of an already demanding year. Productivity doesn’t suddenly become easier because it’s December. Nervous systems don’t reset just because it’s a holiday.

What can help is permission:
• Permission to slow one thing down
• Permission to say no—or not yet
• Permission to rest without earning it
• Permission to let “good enough” be enough

As we move toward the holidays, may we lead ourselves, and others with the same compassion we so freely extend.

You don’t have to push through this week.

You’re allowed to arrive as you are.

In behavioral health, leadership, and organizational life, joy is often misunderstood as something that comes after stress, crisis, or hard seasons.

In reality, joy can coexist with challenge.

It shows up in moments of connection, purpose, and shared humanity, often becoming a quiet but powerful protective factor against burnout.

At Harford Counseling, we believe cultivating space for joy, individually and within organizations is not a luxury.

It’s a core component of sustainable well-being, psychological safety, and resilient systems.

New Specialty Service at Harford Counseling: CBT-I for Chronic Insomnia

Sleep challenges are more than an inconvenience...they affect emotional regulation, cognitive functioning, physical health, and overall quality of life.

Harford Counseling is pleased to expand our specialty services with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), the first-line, evidence-based treatment for chronic insomnia recommended by the American College of Physicians.

CBT-I is a structured, time-limited intervention that helps individuals:
• Rebuild healthy, sustainable sleep patterns
• Reduce reliance on long-term sleep medications
• Improve daytime functioning, mood, and resilience

This service is provided by Dr. Mark Nolder, Ph.D., who completed a 6-month competency-based CBT-I training through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, a program recognized for its clinical rigor and research-supported protocols.

✨ Flexible options available:

✔️ Individualized treatment
✔️ Closed-group programming

CBT-I may be appropriate for individuals experiencing:
• Chronic or psychophysiological insomnia
• Insufficient sleep patterns
• Sleep difficulties related to anxiety, depression, or stress

At Harford Counseling, we believe healing and restoration begin with connection: to self, to others, and to supportive systems. Quality sleep is foundational to that work.
