Teens won’t always tell you what they’re feeling — but they are always paying attention to how safe it feels to come to you.
Want to build trust? Start here:
💙 Listen without fixing. Sometimes your teen just needs to vent. Pause the advice and just say: “That sounds hard. I’m glad you told me.”
💙 Admit when you’re wrong. Owning your mistakes shows them it’s safe to be imperfect and honest.
💙 Respect their space. Trust grows when teens know they’re not being forced into conversation but invited into it.
💙 Show up consistently. It’s often the little moments, the car rides, the bedtime check-ins, that build the foundation for the bigger talks.
Trust doesn’t happen overnight. But your presence, patience, and grace can soften even the most guarded heart over time.
And if you’re looking for ways to start this process earlier, we’re here to help.
This fall, our Pre-Teen Small Group helps younger kids (ages 9–13) build emotional awareness, connection, and confidence.
