Here are some times to help keep you and your safe this Halloween!

Happy Halloween from the Maryland Department of Health. Keep these costume safety tips in mind before the kids go out tonight.

👻Wear bright colors or add strips of reflective tape to be more visible.
🎃Wear makeup & hats instead of masks that can obscure vision.

Tonight is the night! Make safer for your little monsters with these easy safety tips. Remember to keep exits clear of decorations so nothing blocks escape routes and all smoke alarms work. nfpa.org/halloween

Do you ever feel like you’re the default parent for EVERYTHING?

Moms often fall into the pattern of serving as the default, being the ones to:

〰 Manage schedules/routines
〰 Know where everything is
〰 Always be the emergency contact
〰 Anticipate everyone’s needs
〰 Rarely get a break
〰 Calm and soothe the baby
〰 Stay on top of clothes and supplies
〰 Be the “go-to” for everything
〰 Take time off work

It can leave moms feeling touched out, burned out, and exhausted from always being “on.”

Being the default parent can make moms feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and resentful.

They might feel unseen and unheard, upset that their partners don’t step in and help ease the burden of the invisible load.

But living with resentment doesn’t help us solve problems or move forward with our partner. In fact, resentment keeps us from seeing the good in our partner, creating a cycle of conflict and anger.

But the good news is that we CAN learn the skills we need to break out of resentment, communicate productively, and advocate for our needs.

and I created the Unpacking Resentment Workshop to help you get to the bottom of your resentment–and on Thursday, September 28th, we’re hosting a special LIVE session of the workshop for the first time in two years!

You’ll learn how to:

✔︎ Get on the same page
✔︎ Share the load of parenthood
✔︎ Advocate for your needs
✔︎ Work through conflict and break out of unhealthy patterns

Join us LIVE Thursday September 28th at 1 pm ET/10 am PT! (Can’t make it live? Don’t worry–you’ll get unlimited access to the replay!)

Thank you Momwell for this post.

"So many of us end up becoming the “preferred parent” without realizing it–the one who our children turn to first for every snack, every boo-boo, and every need.

Being the preferred parent can be tough. It comes with a big invisible load, including:

〰 Being the one who is constantly needed
〰 Feeling like you are the only one able to soothe your child
〰 Resenting that others can’t help
〰 Feeling trapped
〰 Navigating impacts on relationship with partner
〰 Carrying the invisible weight of being the only preferred one
〰 Managing the guilt of how it impacts other caregivers
〰 Feeling the pressure to be constantly available
〰 Managing the emotional toll and exhaustion
〰 Trying to care for yourself
〰 Feeling alone and like no one understands the pressure
〰 Wishing others could pick up on cues the way you do

It can come with a lot of frustration, overwhelm, or resentment (often leading to guilt and shame).

We might think we should WANT to be the preferred parent or that we should be “grateful.”

But the truth is that it’s HARD. And it’s okay to feel the weight of that."
