National Association for Children of Addiction

National Association for Children of Addiction Using our network of the most respected experts in the field, NACoA provides solutions to address these impacts effectively.

NACoA envisions a world in which no child who struggles because of family addiction will be left unsupported. NACoA gives those who touch children’s lives daily the training and tools needed to help them see the pain and confusion of struggling children and respond appropriately both systemically in their professions and personally with understanding hearts. In a word, our programs give a voice to impacted children who suffer in silence each day:
-Celebrating Families! ™, an evidence-based, trauma-informed, skill building program of 16 sessions serving the whole family: children ages birth-18, their parents & caregivers. Versions also available to support Hispanic & Native American families.
-Children's Program Kit, a comprehensive tool kit enabling implementation and ongoing managing of a complete children’s educational support program in schools, at treatment facilities, afterschool programs, weekend camps and summer day camps, or at religious institutions.
-The Clergy Education and Training Project®, developed in collaboration with major national faith organizations, it provides education and tools to help faith communities understand and address addiction and its devastating impact on families and children effectively.

These children - known as COAs - may feel frightened and alone; assuming that the turmoil in their home is all their fault. Remember a text or a call can make all the difference in the world. Or inviting them to enjoy the storm with you.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s attitude towards children was deeply rooted in hope, justice, and character; regarding them as the future. This is so important for children impacted by substance use disorders in their families. Together, we can shine a beacon of hope that healing is possible and recovery is waiting. The message that whatever your circumstances and your current abilities, you can in fact move forward can be transformative. Help today’s youth believe that better days are waiting.
