In Loving Memory Annette Sue Pauley Martin
January 27, 1949 - July 10, 2025
Annette Sue Pauley Martin, 76, of Forest Hills, Kentucky, entered her eternal rest on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Friends of Caroline Hospice in Ridgeland, South Carolina.
"Suedy", as she was affectionately known, was born on January 27, 1949, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Charlene Pauley.
Suedy graduated from Williamson High School in 1967 and went on to further her education at Eastern Kentucky University. After earning her degree, she pursued her true passion—teaching.
Over the years, Ms. Martin, as she was known at school, taught many different levels from early elementary to high school. She always made a point to truly connect with each of her students individually making sure they felt seen, heard, and valued, which her students adored her for. Seats in ‘Ms. Martin’s Class’ were treasured by students and their parents.
Teaching was never just a job for Suedy-it was her calling. So much so that even after retiring, she couldn’t stay away and returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher.
Her teaching went well beyond the classroom. Suedy was the definition of a ‘force to be reckoned with’. She was strong, independent, and always ready to take on whatever challenges life threw her way with grace. And no matter where life took her, or what those challenges were, she always found the valuable lessons to be learned. She was quick to share her knowledge and wisdom from over the years and her advice was always shared from the heart.
Her kindness truly knew no bounds. She radiated a warmth and compassion that touched the soul and left lasting impressions on everyone she ever met.
You couldn’t let her kindness fool you though, as Suedy also had a wonderfully mischievous streak. Halloween, especially, brought out that mischievous side. From sneaking around in crazy masks to spook her Granddaughters, to mysterious smashed pumpkins that “fell from a witches broom” and landed on her Niece’s driveway-Suedy loved a good laugh and never missed a chance to pull off a lighthearted prank. She was always up to something and you never quite knew what to expect!
Suedy was a vibrant person that never let the dust settle under her feet for too long. She thrived on routine and started each day with purpose—tending to her animals then grabbing a quick bite before heading out to teach. In the evenings once she had returned home, she would make her rounds again to care for her animals, treat herself to her 15 minute nap, and then before you knew it she was diving into whatever task or chore she could find that needed attention for the day.
Her favorite of those chores though?
Mowing the Grass.
If there was one place you could almost always find her, it was on her beloved John Deere mower tending to her grass (even though she almost never gave it a chance to grow)!
Once the sun began to set, you could find Suedy in one of her rocking chairs on the front porch, taking a night swim in the pool, settling in to watch one of her favorite murder mystery shows, or (if her granddaughters were visiting) you could count on her indulging in a “mandatory spa night” with them before it was time to settle in to bed.
Her true source of joy and happiness was always her family and friends. Whether related by blood or by heart, she made sure everyone knew how deeply she cherished them. She was always eager to spend time with her loved ones. Whether it was working side by side on chores with Cher’s music playing in the background, lounging by the pool, soaking up the sun on the beach, or even cooking up the next spooky witch's tale to share by an autumn fire. All that mattered to her was that she was spending time together creating memories. Memories that will carry us through as we are missing her in the days, weeks and years to come.
Suedy leaves behind a legacy built on love, strength, and compassion—and she is loved just as fiercely and unconditionally in return.
Suedy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Charlene Pauley; her Sister, Charlotte Maroudas; and her Brother-In-Law, Nick Maroudas.
She is survived by her Daughter, Cassie (Todd) Ball; her Son, Josh (Jessica) Martin; her Granddaughters, Lexi (Jacob) Ball and Abby Ball; as well as her Great-Granddaughter, Annette Ball.
She is also survived by her Nieces and Nephews: Nicole (Tim) McNamee, Robby (Kelly) Maroudas, Nicholas McNamee, Noah McNamee, Ben McNamee, and Clara McNamee, as well as many other beloved family members and friends.
We welcome all who love Suedy to join us for a celebration of her beautiful life on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamson, WV. Visitation will be held from 11 am – 1 pm at the church with her service beginning at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Services are under the direction of R.E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, KY.
