W-Sitting: Let’s Talk About It 👀

If you’ve ever seen your child sitting on the floor with their knees bent and feet tucked out to the sides—forming a “W” shape—you’re not alone. This position, called W-sitting, is very common in young kids—and something occupational therapists get asked about all the time.

This week, we’re diving into W-sitting:

Ready, Set, Weekend! This week’s activity is 🧸 Show & Tell Scavenger Hunt!

Have your child find 3 things around the house that they love. Then help them tell you about each one using words, signs, or gestures. 🗣️✨

Try prompts like:
👉 “What is it?”
👉 “Why do you like it?”
👉 “What does it do?”

This is a great way to build vocabulary and confidence while having fun!

Try This at Home: Wall Bounce ⚽️🧱

Gently throw a ball against a wall and catch it on the rebound 🙌 Start close to the wall and then gradually have your child step further away as their skills improve. Encourage your child to see how many consecutive catches they can make 🔢 or to practice with their non-dominant hand for a fun challenge.

Benefits: Trains visual tracking 👀, reaction speed ⚡️, and catching skills 👐
