Scout's House & Friends Scout, the legendary escape artist from the local Animal Shelter. Taking matters into his own paws, chose to find his furever home at Meadow Brook. He chose us.

He adopted his humans and they adopted me. Meadow Brook is located directly across the street from the Antrim County Animal Shelter. Back in the Spring of 2017 during the late evening when all was asleep, a black dog was found, curled up in a ball sleeping on one of the couches in our Front Lobby. We would call the Sherriff and he would come pick up this sad, black dog; an escape artist from the A

nimal Shelter. A couple evenings later, again this black dog would be found sleeping on the couch. After the 3rd time, one of our employees adopted "Scout". Unfortunately, after a couple of months Scout needed a new home. Instead of making Scout go back to the Animal Shelter, Marna Robertson, Administrator said "he belongs to Meadow Brook, he chose us!"

Scout began to reside on Glacier Hill House. He quickly made this household his. At first, he was a little shy around men, but has since learned that not all men are bad. We soon found out that Scout can open doors and later learned he could climb fences. Which would explain how he kept escaping the Animal Shelter. Scout definitely has picked his favorites and has become quite the ladies man. If Jenny Martinek, Household Coordinator is working, Scout is right on her heels and never leaves her side. Scout definitely protects his household and is always the first to get to the door when the door bell rings. He gives off one or two woofs that alerts the staff. Daily you will see Scout enjoying his playground otherwise known as the new courtyard that connects to his household. He especially loves this time of the year playing in the snow and catching snowballs. Scout truly brings joy to our residents, staff and visitors. This is his home. Because Scout has made such an impact on all of us we felt that it is very important to show our support to local Animal Shelters. A long time ago, I followed my nose and my heart and chose Meadow Brook as my home. I didn’t know it then, but that choice turned into a story that traveled far beyond these halls.

Recently, I received the kindest surprise—a letter and a book from an author in New York who once read my story and felt something stick. She told me that watching a dog choose where he belonged helped inspire her illustrated chapter book, Pack of Hearts by .

It makes my tail wag knowing that life here—our residents, our staff, our cozy routines, and all the love—helped spark a story about courage, kindness, and finding your pack at any age. That’s what Meadow Brook has always been to me.
I’m especially proud that I get to share this place with my feline friends Willow and Cosmo the feathered prince, alongside humans who understand that belonging isn’t about age—it’s about heart.

Day 19 of My Advent Calendar

🎄 Welcome to life inside the snow globe! This white stuff has my staff hoomans acting nuttier than a fruitcake. Not my resident hoomans—they’re chill. But the staff? Total holiday chaos.

I’ve seen some wild outfits this season, but today’s sweater situation? Pawfully ugly. Like, “close your eyes and hope for biscuits” ugly.

And the Christmas cheer? Off the charts. Singing, jingling, fa-la-la-ing like they’re in a festive frenzy.

🎄 Today’s episode of Hooman Holiday Chaos: They decided to build a big white lumpy thing. I was excited—I thought we were finally playing in snow! But nope… it was some kind of indoor snowman situation.

Picture this: I’m about to enjoy my glorious biscuit, and little Half Pint (aka Yuki) is sitting there, eyes wide, soaking up every move like it’s a TED Talk. That look on my face? It says, “Kid, watch closely. This is how legends do it.”

🎄 While all my hoomans are running around fa-la-la-ing, TikToking, and dressing like sparkly elves, I’m doing the real work—monitoring the biscuit supply.

🎄 Say “cheese”… oh wait, I already did! Check out this grin—straight out of a holiday rom-com. My Pawblic Relations hooman says it’s “adorable,” but let’s be real, this is the face of a dog who knows there’s a biscuit coming.

🎄 Breaking news from the desk of Scout, Chief Treat Officer:
Apparently, my Pawblic Relations hooman has been “busy” with her hooman shenanigans—TikToking, dressing up all fa-la-la-ish, and spreading cheer like glitter at a craft store. Meanwhile, yours truly has been holding down the fort, looking fabulous and waiting for my close-up.

Do I get credit for being the actual star of this operation? Nope. Do I still deliver holiday magic? Absolutely. Someone’s gotta keep this advent calendar on track while the hooman plays elf.
