What an incredible day at Anshai Torah’s 3rd Annual Kosher Dill Pickleball Tournament at Chicken N Pickle in Allen! We were proud to not only sponsor this event but also get out on the courts and play alongside so many great people.

From the beginner’s clinic to the competitive matches, the energy was amazing and the community spirit was even stronger. Thank you to everyone who came out to support, cheer, and rally together. Events like this remind us how fun it is to be part of something bigger than ourselves.

Until next year, keep swinging those paddles! 🏓

Last week, members of our team had the privilege of attending an inspiring evening with author and speaker Elissa Felder at Congregation Ohr Hatorah in Dallas.

Elissa shared her heartfelt journey of resilience and healing after the loss of her young child, offering comfort and strength through Jewish wisdom and traditions. Her words touched the audience deeply and gave us all a meaningful perspective on finding hope and purpose in the face of grief.

We are grateful to have been part of such a moving event and to join the Dallas community in learning from Elissa’s story.

Today marks the 24th anniversary of September 11, 2001. We pause to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the bravery of first responders who answered the call with courage and sacrifice.

Though twenty-four years have passed, the memory remains vivid and the lessons remain clear: cherish every moment, hold loved ones close, and stand together in unity.

We will never forget.

Catharine Ruditsky led the presentation, sharing insights on Jewish traditions and the importance of advance planning. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with members of our community in a warm and meaningful setting.

Why Do People Tear Clothing at a Jewish Funeral?
In Jewish tradition, mourners observe Kriah, the symbolic act of tearing a garment or ribbon, to express the deep pain of losing a loved one.

What is Kriah?
Kriah means “tearing,” and it reflects the emotional rupture that occurs during grief. Immediate family members often tear a ribbon or clothing before the funeral begins.

Why It Matters
This visible sign of mourning honors the deceased and allows loved ones to express sorrow in a meaningful way.

Ribbon or Garment?
While traditional Kriah involved tearing actual garments, many people today wear a black ribbon pinned to their clothing and tear that instead.

At Houston and Dallas Jewish Funerals, we guide families through every part of the Jewish mourning process with compassion and respect. From Kriah to Kaddish, we help ensure each step aligns with tradition and honors your loved one.

How Long Should You Stay at a Shiva Visit?
Shiva is a sacred part of Jewish mourning. For seven days, loved ones come together to reflect, grieve, and support the family of the deceased. But if you're planning to attend a Shiva, how long should you stay?

🕯️ Keep It Brief, Yet Thoughtful
A visit lasting 20 to 30 minutes is usually best. This gives you time to offer comfort without overwhelming the family.

💬 Follow the Family's Lead
Shiva is not a social gathering. Speak softly, listen with care, and allow the family to set the pace of the visit.

⏳ The Week of Shiva, One Visit at a Time
Shiva lasts up to seven days, but individual visits should be short. If you're unsure about the best time to visit, it's okay to ask.

🌍 Support Makes a Difference
In close communities like Dallas and Houston a respectful Shiva visit shows true compassion and solidarity.

Houston and Dallas Jewish Funerals we help families and guests understand Jewish traditions with sensitivity and clarity.
