Police in Brunswick, GA encountered a young man with non-verbal autism and assumed he was high on drugs. Their response was multiple-tasings and violence against the disabled man. When notified by his sister that he has autism, they dismissed the notice and continued to physically accost him. They stated that he had a crowbar when in fact, he had a spoon.

Situations like this scream for police training on autism and how to work with people with autism. With and continually increasing population of people with autism, the need for this training becomes further immediate.
